1995 Dodge Neon review from North America
"A great car for someone with a good set of jack stands"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The AM FM Stereo stopped functioning in FM after 40,000 miles.
There is a fairly serious oil leak, probably at the head gasket.
The Check Engine light stays on, even after diagnosis and repairs are complete.
The back windshield flew out while traveling on the interstate.
The air conditioner emits foul odors.
The brake rotor on the front right side disintegrated during city driving.
The Reverse lights do not work, replaced bulbs and fuse, but still inoperative.
Gas mileage has dropped from 30 miles per gallon to around 14 miles per gallon.
General comments?
The State Inspection at a local oil and lube center failed my car because the Check Engine light was on. I said, Blank-Blank-Blank! It's a Dodge Neon! The Check Engine light stays on.
For the first 60,000 miles, I loved this car. The acceleration and handling were quick and agile and remain quite peppy even today. For the record, this car has always cranked up even in extreme cold or heat. The air conditioner, though stinky, has always delivered plenty of cold air.
The abundance of nuisance problems takes away from the fun.
I was going to trade it in shortly after I got it paid off, the dealer reluctantly offered me a measly $500 in trade.
