1991 Dodge Spirit R/T 2.2 turbo from North America

Summary:

Very Fast

Faults:

Clutch died at 76,000 miles. Nothing else has gone wrong since I got it. The only other things I have had to do is just regular maintenance.

General Comments:

This car is very fast and I have beaten many powerful cars on the streets and drag strip. I have made a lot of performance mods to this car I have put a k&n air filter, cold air intake, larger exhaust, bigger down pipe, an exhaust header, larger turbo, larger intercooler,150hp nitrous system, upgraded computer chip, upgraded clutch and flywheel. The car makes 404hp and 472lb-ft of torque. My best et time was 12.46 seconds at 108mph. Overall this car has treated me very good since I bought it and I hope to own it for a very long time.

1991 Dodge Spirit 2.5 4 CYLINDER from North America

Summary:

A very reliable and low maintenance car

Faults:

I had very few problems with this vehicle. Th original exhaust had to be replaced at about 80000 miles. The seat belt clip broke because the belt would not always retract and I accidentally closed the door on it. The cable attaching to the tranny linkage broke once. Lastly, a bar in the rear rattled at about 90000 miles.

General Comments:

This car was very reliable. I put over 60000 miles on it and I was the third owner. The only time it broke down on me was when the cable attaching the shifter to the linkage broke. Other than that, only wear parts had to be replaced.

The car was very quick and could reach a fairly high top speed for the motor size. It also handles very well in turns, probably due to the fairly wide tires (wide compared to my last car).

The mileage for this car was usually alittle above what the window sticker said. About 25-30 miles per gallon.

The interior had a good bit of room, but the armrests were cumbersome and uncomfortable. The light around the ignition wouldn't always shut off, but it never created a problem. Replacement interior light bulbs were difficult to find sometimes.

Reaching various engine components was easy, but it was difficult to change the brakes or air filter without special tools.

1991 Dodge Spirit 2.5L Gasoline from North America

Summary:

This is my second one, and I'd buy another

Faults:

Driver's side window is really stiff.

Leaking oil, but not enough to worry.

Bright light indicator doesn't work.

Speedometer and Odometer don't work sometimes.

Right now it is overheating and not blowing any warm air. Had the thermostat, rad cap and water pump replaced. Still isn't working.

Little rust around the gas cap and by the wheel wells.

General Comments:

Very comfortable ride. Great interior.

Very nice sound system for factory.

Drives really nice, especially on the hi-way. Also good on gravel roads.

Always has started for me, even in our -40 C weather.

Handles well, good power for a 4 cylinder.

Cheap to fix.

Over average on fuel, but large tank.

If you're still having overheating problems even after replacing the thermostat and other stuff, then your head gasket may be leaking. To confirm this, drive the car for about fifteen minutes. Then park it. Don't shut the engine off. Open the hood and go to the overflow bottle. Open it and take a peak at the fluid in there. If you see some bubbles, then your head gasket is likely on its way out. This is a fairly common problem, by the way, and many people are unaware of it.
