1995 Fiat Punto GT 1.4 turbo from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Lots of power for not too many pennies - pocket rocker

Faults:

Nothing major, gearbox isn't up to scratch. doesn't always go into first.

Tiny leak from radiator, rad-weld done the job there..!

General Comments:

As quick as a milk float until the turbo boost kicks in, g-force...!!!

Saxo VTS killer.!

Nice roomy motor, comfy seats, I'm liking the sporty steering wheel.

Although its got electric windows, sunroof and mirrors still looks basic in side for the top of the range modal, needs to be a bit more exec inside.

1995 Fiat Punto 75 ELX Exclusive 1.2 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A cheap, fun runabout - absolutely an ideal second car, and looks good too!

Faults:

Exhaust has been replaced 4 times in all (3 rear sets and 1 front Catalytic converter). Still not right!

Brake Pads (front) changed @ 39000.

Brake shoes (rear) changed @ 43000.

MOT failure due to emissions (required new CAT - engine passed MOT, but still not running correctly. Fault believe to be with ECM.

Face-off stereo - buttons fallen off - no spares available.

No red ignition key supplied - either £250 to fix at a dealer or £175 to have a remote Thatcham alarm fitted (Toad) - went for the latter. Messed about by dealers. Make sure you get one!

Sun-roof failed to open/close found a 'backstreet' Fiat specialist who fixed it FOC when they service the car (c.£60/10,000).

New battery needed after I killed it on a dodgy charger.

General Comments:

Handles and drives really well. (My company made the front anti-roll bar!)

Poor quality of interior materials.

Generally reliable.

Like a TARDIS - very spacious interior!

Looks good - especially with the colour coded bumpers.

Never failed to start (except when I killed the battery!).

Sounds like your car has not been well looked-after. I've had my Punto a year and a half now, it's done 49k, touch-wood nothing has gone wrong yet except a break light switch.

1995 Fiat Punto 55SX 1.1i petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good all round car!!!

Faults:

Handbrake Cable + Shoes replaced at 42000 miles, under warranty by dealer.

Handbrake Cable + Shoes replaced again at 43000 miles. Again free of charge, but would appear that dealer way trying to avoid replacing the adustor mechanism, which later failed.

Lambda probe failed at 46000 miles, replaced free of charge by dealer.

Cam Belt replaced at 52000 miles.

Boot lock failed at 55000 miles, boot cannot be opened with the key.

General Comments:

This car is excellent! Although there was a few problem with it, it is a very comfortable car, and very fast for a 1.1!

So far, the car has been modified as follows:-

15" Fox Alloys, 195/50 Uniroyal tyres.

40mm Suspension lowered all round.

K&N Induction kit.

Performance Backbox.

White Dials.

New Fiat Badge on bonnet (looks greats!)

Pioneer MP3 player headunit.

12" Sub (400watt)

6x9's in shelf, 4inch components in dash.

Car now handles like it is on rails!! And corner, and speed! Not particularly quick off the mark, but good top end!

OK on petrol, will do around 40mpg round town, and 45+ on a run!

Loads of room inside, looks great, and quick for the engine size! Insurance also very cheap!

How much does the engine of Fiat Punto 1108 cc weigh, because it's too hard to find. If anyone knows, let me know. Thanks.

1995 Fiat Punto SX 1.1 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A good small family car

Faults:

New Clutch needed at 30,000 miles.

General Comments:

This is an excellent car, the seats are supportive, the suspension is good, but it's not that good to drive.

The body is attractively styled and well built.

The only problem I have had with this car is the clutch which was not that costly to replace.

1995 Fiat Punto 55S 1.1 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

An average small car with a poor engine.

Faults:

Rear suspension arms at 44K miles. (£400)

Head Gasket at 49K miles. (£250)

Both of these seem to be a major problem on this car after reading the other reviews.

General Comments:

For a small car it is very roomy inside, the seats and furnishings are basic. The stereo positioning is very poor making it difficult to safely change the radio statio whilst driving.

Handling is very poor and under steer is a big problem on tight bends.

Reliable apart from the two mentioned points which seem to be very common.
