2003 Ford Crown Victoria LX Sport review from North America

Had intermittent overdrive trans problems with hot days and 10 minute plus idle times. Kept slamming from O/D back down to 3rd or just stayed locked up in 3rd, would not up shift. Went through a lot with the dealer; finally had the module replaced, and this seemed to fix it. Also had the right rear wheel bearing go out; replaced it.

My previous car was a Volvo 240 bought it new had it for 16 years and put 300K on it. I was in both Seattle and NYC and asked the cabbies how many miles they had on their Vic's. They were all between 300-700K miles with minor problems. I decided that was the car for me.

I'm a diehard rear wheel drive fan and won't spend what the Europeans want for their rear wheel drive offerings.

This car listed for $30K and I bought it for $16.3K when it was 13 months old. You can't beat the ride, handling, and it's quick. I average 18-19 city/highway and can stretch it to 23 mpg on a cruise.

I went on-line and had the "Ford factory issued crash isolator kit" put on. It cost $250.00 but it reduces the chance of the infamous Crown Vic gas tank problem from happening to us. See your dealer, it's worth it.

I tell everyone that I drive in my living room; I've got my two leather easy chairs and the full size couch in back. It's a great car, and I'm real sorry to see it go. the LX sport kit and center console shift with the 17's really sets it off. Those, coupled with the solid silver monochromatic paint job makes it a head turner.
