2001 Ford Escape XLT V6 from North America

Summary:

Would HIGHLY recommend this vehicle!

General Comments:

This car is quick, drives well, is easy to park and great in the snow.

We bought it for our teenager and chose it because of it's high safety rating. It has the highest safety rating of all the small SUVs we researched.

It handles extremely well in the snow/ice. Our son had a two day driving course where they were deliberately put into a skid. The second day of the course, the instructor had our son drive his (the instructor's) car because they were having trouble getting the Escape to skid.

It's very quick on the start (not the best thing for a teenager). It has been very reliable.

2001 Ford Escape XLT 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

2001 was its first year and I bet many of its shortcomings have been fixed

Faults:

A/C Evaporater - under warranty - 45,000 miles.

Tires (Firestone) replaced 25,000 miles even after yearly alignments and balancing.

Right front strut - 45,000 miles.

Spark plugs replaced - 50,000 miles, however, did not then run right and after pulling plugs and asking for old ones back it was determined they were never changed -suddenly, no charge.

Transmission began heavy up and down shifts and brought the Escape back 3 times until they called for a factory rep who changed the fluid, filter and a module. This was done with 59,990 miles on it and my warranty expired at 60,000 miles.

General Comments:

I still like this truck, I have placed bars on the front and back and have5 pairs of fog lights and driving lights on her.

I'm a big guy and I fit very comfortably in the driver's seat.

Rear seats have good room as well and they tilt for comfort as well.

Always runs cool in the summer and has good heat in the winter.

Really would have appreciated brighter interior lights, for the dash and all the courtesy lights as well.

2001 Ford Escape XL 3.0L from North America

Summary:

110,000 miles and smiling

Faults:

Coolant level light.

General Comments:

This has been the best vehicle I have ever owned for powertrain reliability with over 110,000 miles and it runs perfectly. I've maintained it to specifications and it is like the day I bought it. It has tons of get up and go and has not slowed down one bit. A couple minor things were fixed during the warranty period. The only complaint would be the coolant level light is faulty and there doesn't seem to be a good fix. I plan on driving it at least another 45,000-60,000 miles before I replace it.

2001 Ford Escape XLT 3.0 from North America

Summary:

Great SUV if it didn't have the intermittent problems

Faults:

The vehicle jerks when the transmission shifts intermittently.

The brake pedal feels like there are rocks in it when applying the brakes, intermittently.

The rear wiper didn't work, replaced the motor and it worked for one day, then quit again.

It's very noisy when going over bumps, no matter how small they are. It seems much looser than when I bought it.

General Comments:

The car is very fast and really gets it.

But I hate the intermittent problems.

2001 Ford Escape XLT from North America

Summary:

Overall not a bad little car, but would buy something else for my next one, probably a Honda Pilot

Faults:

I find I'm having most of the usual problems as everyone else.

PROBLEMS:

#1 Getting it out of park. Very frustrating, but I jiggle the steering wheel and press the brake and it seems to finally release.

#2 Coolant light going on and off, but mostly staying on. I had it fixed only because the light was annoying, cost me around $100 as my car is out of warranty.

#3 The clunking coming from the wheel area, both front and back. My son in law thinks it might be the bearings. I have an appt tomorrow to get it checked out.

#4 Wore out front brakes at 34,000 miles! Also had to get new tires!

#5 Gas pedal sticks when trying to take off from stoplight. I press harder and then it releases suddenly and almost gives me whiplash!

#6 Some CDs skip while playing or don't play at all.

General Comments:

PROS;

#1Good gas mileage, around 23 MPG

#2Roomy, comfortable to drive.

#3I've use it to help move my daughter to her new home and had it packed full several times. I've hauled brick for my flowerbeds, bark dust, bags of cement etc. Lots of room!

No tranny problems, yet. No stalling out. No vibrations.
