1992 Ford Escort LX 1.9L SOHC from North America

Summary:

Basically it's a Mazda-built Ford (that should describe it)

Faults:

Clutch went a couple of times.

Lost reverse gear in the transmission (but had it fixed).

Front brake rotors were warped (that's what happens if you forget to replace your brake pads).

General Comments:

This car is virtually indestructable. It's also very economical.

It's a fun car to zip around in, but it could use a little bit more performance.

1992 Ford Escort LX 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A typical Ford (cheap and nasty pile of xxxx)

Faults:

Just about everything that could go wrong (brakes failed, engine starting problems, door jam leaks, steering noises, rear shocks failed, 2 new wheel bearings).

General Comments:

Typical F.O.R.D as my friend quoted me (Fixed Or Repaired Daily). Cheap and nasty, my previous BMW and current Audi knocked the spots of it in terms of performance, reliability & build quality.

1992 Ford Escort XR3i Cabriolet 1.8 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Attracts the girls

Faults:

I had the car lowered and 15 inch alloys added, but now the steering is terrible. Any bumps I go over throw the steering hard to the left or right, but I have had it checked by 2 different garages but no one can find out what it is.

Every morning when the car is cold I pull off, and then when I stop at a junction the car cuts out, and I have to bump start it to get it going again.

General Comments:

The car looks amazing, very low, the K&N air filter makes it very loud and a great car to attract attention from the girls. Performance is good but not instant, you have to really put your foot down to get it going.

RS2000 MKV shape mine is in mint condition it was cheap to buy I have modified the engine slightly and it is quick fun, but I find petrol costs and the group 16 insurance a bit steep, if I was sensible I would sell it,but hey I love it to bits.

1992 Ford Escort RS Cosworth 2.016v turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Street cred on wheels baby!

Faults:

I'm actually quite surprised at the reliability of the car so far. Only the immobiliser and the thermostat have had to be replaced. It also runs at 330 Brake Horse which is pretty cool as seeing as I am only 20 years old!

Although the insurance is £3660.

I would say that as long as the engine is thoroughly warmed up and annihilations of other cars are done in short bursts, the engine is fairly solid.

I think going above green injectors is stupid, as the engine is not designed to handle this sort of strain, and the pistons will soon melt.

General Comments:

Although Subaru's and Mitsubishi's are now considered to be a lot faster than Cossies, mine would waste Subaru's when it wasn't chipped and when it was chipped, Evo 6's can't keep up even though they claim that they are as fast as Ferrari's.

When you get one of these you won't be sorry, people treat you like you own a Ferrari!

"I think going above green injectors is stupid, as the engine is not designed to handle this sort of strain, and the pistons will soon melt".

Just get some forged pistons, and get some greys or blues on your car.

Evos and Scoobys cannot overtake a Cossie. Do you know how rubbish these cars are? I've had a 2001 Scooby and a 2002 Evo, and they are nowhere near as fast as my Escossie on a K reg, which is slightly tuned at 295 bhp. My Cossie is quicker than my old Scooby and Evo.

Of coarse your Cossie is going to be faster than a standard STI or EVO, it's tuned. But then again, you can buy faster from Subaru and Mitsubishi like the WR1, STI PPP, P1, FQ300-360. Bet even your tuned Cossie ain't faster than any of those.

A standard cossie, escort or sapphire ain't gonna be as quick as an STI.
