1997 Ford Escort LX 2.0 SOHC from North America

Summary:

A good reliable car that doesn't cost much

Faults:

The timing belt was replaced at 130 000km.

The engine belt was also replaced at 145 000 km.

The ball joint on the left front wheel was replaced at 145 000 km.

Water leaked into the driver compartment during rain, a mechanic welded a metal plate above the pedals, the problem disappeared.

General Comments:

Overall this is a very good car, very few problems experienced with it, the performance is decent, handles well, acceleration could be better, but is good enough to keep up with traffic and merge onto the freeway. Fuel economy is pretty good also, in the city I averaged about

9L/km, on the freeway about 7-8L/km, at speeds of 80-90km/h about 6.5L/km.

1997 Ford Escort GTi 1.8 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Nice looks, reliable, but not very fast

Faults:

Had to replace the clutch.

General Comments:

This car was fantastic. It Was not as fast as you would expect a Gti to be, however it was reliable, economical and looked great when kitted out. I put 17's on mine, lowered it, Cd player, air filter and stainless exhaust. Then an uninsured driver drove up the back of me and wrote it off!

1997 Ford Escort LX 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Gets you from A to B with gas effective pep

Faults:

Gas Gage doesn't work, stuck at 1/2 tank.

Door locks break (all locks on the car have had to be replaced).

Replaced clutch.

Idle surges (850-1200rpm)

Noise from front wheels.

Stock stereo costly to replace ($250+ cost of stereo)

Minor emissions problems.

General Comments:

Haven't put a lot of miles on this car yet, and I bought it with high miles. Most the things that are wrong with the car were that way when I got it. the gas gage is a very annyoing problem. It costs a lot to fix, and I just don't have $900 sitting around after buying a car.

The seats are the worst I have ever sat in. 15mins and I have to start shifting positions. they have held up great, but a wooden bench would have been better.

The 5speed was a great choice, this car does have plenty of power, and will hold 80mph without a problem.

The simple things in this car are what bother me the most.

Cruise control works, but doesn't have a light to let you know its on.

Cup holders are poorly placed and designed... especially for a 5speed

I would rank the headlights a 0/10 I can see better with the parking lights, HID bulbs help, but only make it equal to any-other car.

2 weeks after replacing the locks they broke again.

Over all not a bad buy... I will keep this updated as my miles increase.

1997 Ford Escort LX from North America

Summary:

The perfect car for anyone of all ages!

Faults:

I live in New York, but when I drove to Florida, I got into a car accident and totaled the whole front and right side.

Nothing else really happened although that's not the cars fault, its mine so I guess nothing really did happen to this car.

General Comments:

I've had many cars before, but not one of them has been as reliable and excellent as this car. This car is the best. I drive it to school everyday and all my friends have a lot of room in the rear.

The car handles great and even a gentle tap on the gas accelerates the car up to a perfect speed. The only thing I dislike about this car is that it only has a cassette player. One day I'll have to put in a CD player. Anyway, the seats are very comfortable and what more can I say.

I LOVE THIS CAR!
