36k miles!!! mine is on 94k mine is a black 3 door no rust dents marks very mint so can think what yours is like on 36k!!! heated rear window should take 60 seconds to clear!! try taking dash out put a new switch in very easy!!!

I have the same problem - when I am at a steady speed and hold it at that speed, I can feel the car pulling back on me. It only has 32k on clock, and I've replaced most things to resolve the problem, but still no luck. Please help.

Just a small tip regarding the lack in performance issue;

Try unclipping the large air intake pipe from the airbox (or cone filter) and then remove the MAF, which is the part that fits into the airbox/cone filter from the end of the pipe.

Get some carb cleaner spray for a couple of pounds, spray this into the MAF in short bursts. This will usually solve the problem.

If not, try another MAF from any 1.8 zetec engine (escort, mondeo) from a scrap yard.

Hi! I've got a 1997 escort GTI. it's a excellent car, very fast and responsive, but when I turn my lights on, the INTERIOR LIGHTS don't COME ON, but eventually do when I switch the switch about 2 or 3 times. Can someone let me know what I can do to fix it? it is very annoying when I'm driving in the dark and they don't come on.

Got a 98 gti with 60000 on the clock, had to replace suspension arms after persistant rattling and squeeking noise going over speed humps. leaking windscreen replaced recently too due to perished seals. just added k&n induction system runs a treat, not the fastest car I've ever had though...
