My 1999 Expedition does the same thing. Although the interior lights and warning light will usually go off after a few minutes. Sometimes it takes longer and sometimes I have to drive around for a few minutes before they kick off. I have looked at the components and still can't figure out the problem. Last week I had a dead battery at work--I think the lights never turned off.

My 97 xlt does the same thing, the lights seem to stay on for up to 2 hours some times after I lock it and leave (maybe it knows?) any way, it appears to have this problem intermittently yet there is a pattern some what that it almost always happens if its been raining or very wet out. After 20-30 mph if I'm driving away it will seem to recognize the speed change and shut off the lights, but leave the "door ajar" on, How do I explain that the door is a door... not a jar?

I have the exact same problem with my 1997 Expedition. The lights stay on until I drive off. The problem also appears to be more during very cold or wet weather. They usually go out within an hour of parking. If someone hears of a recall or has an idea to fix the problem I would certainly appreciate it.

WD 40 On the latches cleared the problem right up on my 1997 Expedition.

I see a lot of people are having trouble with the door ajar light and interior lights coming on, well usually the problem is a door switch. The door switch is located in the bottom of the door latch (in the door) that is activated when the door is opened and closed. What happens is the button gets sticky and will stick to the open position or is slow to move to the closed position. If you cannot find which door it is the dealer can hook up a computer to it and usually tell you which door is causing the trouble. To fix it you can replace the switch in the bottom of the latch. Sometimes if you spray a lubricating spray like wd-40 into the latch several times it will free it up to work again. Good luck.

I have a 1998 Ford Expidition, The door ajar light would not go out, also the interior lights stay on. The fix for me was WD-40 in the door latch assy. Hope this helps.

'99 Eddie Bauer Expedition with the same problem (just started). It occurs when it's cold &/or wet.

I tried the WD-40, worked once, but came back after the rain started again. I'd prefer not to pay the dealer if anyone knows of a recall.

Thanks.
