1979 Ford F150 5.0 High Output from North America

Summary:

Loud and loveable

Faults:

I blew the engine in my truck about a year ago and parked till I had the money to put a new one in it.

That's all that's ever gone wrong with it.

General Comments:

It's a good old truck.

It's black with red pinstripe it looks OK.

I just dropped a high output 5.0 in it before I put it in I took it and, but solid lifters, single plane intake, a four barrel carb., and dual exhaust glass packs and split pipes at the end.

The fastest I've had it is about 130 Miles per hour.

It's an awesome hill jumper to.

I got a nice stereo in it to, but I'm not gonna go into it.

1979 Ford F150 2.0 - 302 from North America

Summary:

The most fun truck I had

Faults:

Transmission started popping out of gear.

Clutch went out, twice.

Tailgate fell off due to rust.

Blinker switch physically broke.

Shifter jammed up on new drivers.

Linkage worn for clutch petal.

General Comments:

Despite this being a beater I loved it. The '79 with the square headlights, but before the nasty 80's changes looked the best. A little doggier in the low range of 3rd gear at first. Then the '76 302 would go from 75 mph to the needle on to the "M" on "MPH" on the bottom of the gage in just a few seconds. Could get getting rubber in 2nd gear take off.

1979 Ford F150 XLT RWD 5-speed 4.2 V6 SPI from North America

Summary:

Best handling truck I have ever driven

Faults:

Recalls...

There is a stress crack in the doors that is actually a recall, but Ford likes to keep it under their hats. They don't know what to do about it. I had sticky door ajar switches but I fixed them with WD-40.

Check Engine light turns on whenever the engine gets wet. Not a big deal.

The doors are built very poorly.

NEEDS a traction lock differential.

NEEDS a rear sway bar to eliminate wheel hop.

Air filter's dirty and I don't wanna change it.

General Comments:

This truck is great on gas, has LOADS of torque for a V6, corners like a demon, and it's my favorite color.

The RWD manual transmission XLT's are very low to the ground and have very rigid suspension, I can't believe how well it handles on turns, it's great.

Tip: Don't let the guys at fast service stations set your tire pressure at 32 PSI, it will cause the tires to start chopping. Fill the tires to the recommended inflation pressure that is posted on the tire, don't listen to the lube guys.
