1985 Ford Falcon XF S-PAK 4.1 Lt from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Great Power, Manual Goes Hard

Faults:

Air Conditioning Unit Failed (common).

Engine Mounts split.

Clutch Replaced about 100,000kms.

Alternator and starter motor replaced about the same time.

Gearbox Syncro's have been slowing wearing away, now crunches into 2nd and 4th.

General Comments:

At first the only XF I was in was an auto, and was really slow and had poor acceleration. My XF S-Pack with the 4 speed and sports springs make you glide like a feather.

The manual the with my 4.1 Lt EFI single point injection make for a very powerful car, also with the Ford 9inch Diff LSD.

I did a stopwatch test and I got 0 - 100 in 8.45 seconds, which is as quick as a 1996 VS Commodore, which I thought wasn't too bad at all.

1985 Ford Falcon XF 4.1 litre from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

This is an excellent car

Faults:

I have had to replace the Rocker cover gasket twice.

I have had to replace the Drive plate assembly.

General Comments:

It is a quick car that handles brilliantly at any speed.

However its not a good car to drive if something goes wrong with the engine even something small.

1985 Ford Falcon XF 3.3 litre from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Cruiser..

Faults:

Broken Cylinder Head.

New Bushes.

Door Handles.

Cracked dashboard.

Center console worn.

Tires.

Door Locks broken.

Radiator.

General Comments:

I hated it when the cylinder head blew.

I had just bought the car, geez was I angry.

Thats when I had problems with the radiator.

There are a few problems with it since, but nothing that a bit of time and money cannot fix.

Its got 5 Spoke California mags on it, and a beautiful paint job.

I plan to get a 5.0 litre on it. That 3.3 was great for learning on.

But a 5.0 would do nicely. I am correct in that there are a few of these out there?

Next on the shopping list is new suspension, locks, muffler and a brand new exhaust.

Gday, I have an XF, 3.3 4speed, but I'm not looking to put a V8 into it, going to put an OHC 4 ltr EB six and T5. Should give good performance as it has similar HP and torque to a EFI Windsor and less weight. And the six is cheaper and easier to find.

We just got an xf ford falcon 4.1 and it flys along

1985 Ford Falcon XF 4.1 litre carby (X-Flow) from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

An excellent car in all respects

Faults:

Alternator needed a new voltage regulator.

Automatic Transmission needed replacing.

Replaced the valve stem seals to stop it blowing smoke on start-up.

Broke two door handles.

Radiator cracked, got a "new" one from the wreckers.

Tear in the drivers seat.

Air conditioner doesn't work, and has a blockage in the line somewhere.

General Comments:

The only bad thing I would have to say for my particular XF S-pak, is the transmission being replaced. This was needed though, as it blew out 1st and 2nd gear, and locked itself in 3rd. It made taking off from the line a bit slow.

This car in all other respects has been fantastic.

It's on gas, so running costs are reasonably low. $25 of gas will get me around 400 k's. If I feel inclined to, I'll fill up with petrol and gas and it will do just under 1000 k's on both on tanks of fuel.

It tears off at the line, and it cruises at 110 kph while revving just under 2400 rpm. It will sit on 60 or 160 kph all day without a problem.

The steering and general handling characteristics of this car is great. Unless I really push it through corners, it never over-steers or under-steers.

The interior has a few stain and scuffs, the dashboard is cracked (aren't they all though?), and I have replaced the odd door handle.

I've done around 93,000 k's in about 2 years, and I love driving it.

It tows heavy loads without fuss.

Since replacing the valve stem seals and the radiator, it doesn't use a drop of water or oil. The most attention I pay to it mechanically is the odd oil and filter change.
