1988 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 ho efi from North America

Summary:

A true American sports car

Faults:

The only problem that I had with this car, is the grommet that goes on the accelerator cable, I believe it is called the TV grommet. But I fixed that for 3 dollars.

General Comments:

Excellent vehicle. The interior is unbelievable in both comfort and style. It has the white leather with scarlet appointments.

The top is smooth, and all the windows are extremely smooth. All power everything, windows, top, etc.

The brakes are very good, you just need to take care of it.

1988 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 from North America

Summary:

Excellent performance car for the enthusiast!

Faults:

I had the headlight switch replaced under warranty.

I also had the engine rebuilt for excessive oil usage under warranty (6/60,000).

Otherwise the car has been flawless.

General Comments:

I have added flowmaster exhaust and JBA headers.

Seems like at every stoplight, somebody wants to race me!

1988 Ford Mustang LX 2.3 Liter 4cycl. from North America

Summary:

Most reliable easy fix I will ever own

Faults:

Alternator.

Battery (but expected after 9 years of use)

Brake Pads.

Ashtray Door.

Loud Fuel Pump. Sounds like a leaf blower!

General Comments:

Although this is only a 4cycl. engine, I love this car. I now want a 5.0 (for the speed). This has been the most reliable car I have ever owned. The only bad thing to note about this car is that it is held together inside of the car by nothing more than screws and a few bolts.

1988 Ford Mustang GT 5.0L from North America

Summary:

Nice look and fast with a good price

Faults:

Starter went out at 73,000 miles.

Rattling in the interior.

New clutch linkage cable.

General Comments:

This car has the best acceleration I've driven yet. Beats all those little imports on lights. If you like drag racing bolt-on parts are easy to get and they give nice horsepower. I love the mustang now I just have to make it do 10's.

1988 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 from North America

Summary:

It's a quick berzerker

Faults:

Right when this car was bought it was leaking oil from the heads, the starter was bad, and the heater core was shot. The cap and rotor were bad and it was miss firing, I also bought new wires and plug's. Horn was shot too.

General Comments:

The interior was great no holes, someone had decided to throw up in the back seat though (Rancid). Performance is still great, some wheel hop. The steering radius is terrible; I can't pull a U-turn on a four lane road with a median. The locks must have been switched to cause neither key works! This car doesn't have must rust either.

1988 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 from North America

Summary:

The 80's muscle-car

Faults:

The heater core went at 60,000.

The tranny synchros were replaced under warranty.

This car burns oil right off the showroom floor.

Have replaced the gas filter several times.

Have replaced the valve cover gaskets several times.

What's left of the paint on this car is shot.

General Comments:

This car was beaten on for 10 years and never let me down. It still flies.

Most of the problems I've listed are common among these cars.

After all the abuse and limited driving, it still purrs when I start it up.

I am currently rebuilding this car with the amazing selection of parts from the after-market.

1988 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 (302 cid) High Output V8 from North America

Summary:

A excellent car that can be many things to many people

Faults:

The Mustang needed a complete brake job.

The alternator connection was faulty due to a previous repair that was done poorly. The result of the fault was a complete electronic system failure.

The seats in the Mustang are comfortable but difficult to keep clean.

Headlight lenses tend to oxidize and yellow with time.

General Comments:

The Mustang is a blast to drive. Try to imagine strapping yourself into a fighter jet on takeoff. The acceleration is absolutely blinding. The throaty exhaust tone commands respect at traffic signals.

The Mustang averages a little over 20 mpg, which is very good considering the performance. The cabin of the Mustang is large and the rear seats fold down and allow the driver to carry fairly large items in the cargo area. The rear seats are cramped and useless.

The Mustang is not a car that handles well in stock form. I advise anyone interested in owning the car to consider suspension and chasis upgrades. Anything that would stiffen the body and frame of the car should be a top priority.

Also I would advise a 1989 or later vehicle as they are equiped with the mass-air fuel management system. The mass-air system is more upgradable than the previous unit. There are many vendors selling Mustang performance parts at reasonable prices.
