Nothing has gone wrong with this car.
I just bought this car, and drove it across the United States to my home in California. The handling-braking-acceleration of this car are all awesome. A late model Corvette tried in vain to pass me repeatedly (I was up to 130 MPH and accelerating). Later I had the cruise control set on 110 MPH across the Nevada desert. If you want the LAST remaining pony-musclecar type still in production, check out the Mustang. While I am a old Chevy fanatic, nothing beats bangin' through 5 gears, cruising effortlessly at 100 MPH, listening to the MAch 460 eight speaker stereo, and kicking down 23 MPG!!!
There is NO way you beat a late model Vette. I have the SAME car as you, just a newer one and I have never beat a Vette'. You are FULL of it!
Maybe the late model vet was in poor condition - same car as you, it's fast, but really isn't THAT great a handler... feels kind of floaty stock and gas mileage is amazing like that... on the freeway - In town it is crap -
That is why tomorrow I'm trading it in, although it is a beautiful care a very fun to drive and seems quite reliable... especially love the way it looks - still not sure if I want to trade it in even :)
My nephew is mechanic and races Mustangs. His personal car is a stock Mustang GT and he has beaten a number of late model 'Vettes in drag races with it. Except for the really hot models the Corvette is not all that fast.
True, the base model Corvettes aren't much faster than a V-6 Mustang, let alone the V-8 GT's. What I DO have trouble believing about this review is 23mpg. NO WAY!!! I've owned 6 Mustangs, including two older ones with the 4, and THEY didn't even get 23!! I sold my last Mustang (a 5.0) three years ago because it was so expensive to drive even then. It got between 9 and 14 mpg. If I were coasting in neutral down the side of Mt. Everest, it might have got 17.
A base model corvette had at least 325 horsepower (I mean late as in within a few years of an 02 mustang) which is a far cry from 190 in the v-6 and the torque differenc isn't exactly in the favor of the mustang either. If your nephew's mustang were manual and the corvette automatic, and your nephew was a better driver then I can see it happening.
Actually I believe later model Corvette's that were within a few years of an 02 Mustang were around 345 horsepower. Still though I do agree, never ever compare a V-6 Mustang to a Corvette, or even a GT to a Corvette, they are entirely different cars.
2004 Mustang GT can make up to 26 MPG on highway, you all can check it at http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/sbs.htm, but if you go back to 90's Mustangs whose are 5.0 engine, you are right, can't make more than 15MPG on highway.
Buy a 4 banger if you wantexcellent gas mileage! mustang gt's are sporty cars with big v8 engines... quit complaining whiners!
