2002 Ford Mustang GT 4.6L V8 from North America

Summary:

Fantastic!

Faults:

Voltage regulator (alternator).

MAF (installed a high performance one to replace the bad one).

General Comments:

I have had the car for 3 years, and it has been exceptionally reliable. It is very fun to drive!

I have a number of mods including a computer tune, lowering springs, poly bushing, Flowmaster exhaust, BBK cold air intake with a BBK high performance Mass Air Flow sensor. The tune makes the auto transmission shift higher and faster.

I take care of my car as far as maintenance goes. It is fast and fun, and I get an honest 25 MPG on trips.

2002 Ford Mustang Base 3.8L V6 from North America

Summary:

Awesome pony car. Lot of fun to drive

Faults:

Cigarette lighter next the the shifter shorted out. Slight wind noise from loose windshield gasket. Other than that the car is great.

General Comments:

This is my second vehicle. The first was a 1986 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck. Comparing the two the mustang is 100 times better. Plenty of power for the V6. Gas mileage is decent (23 average with mostly city driving). I am the 3rd owner of this car. It has 71000 miles on it and runs like new. The previous owners never experienced any problems with the car. It seems to be built very well. The only thing I dislike about the mechanical aspects is the transmission makes a spinning noise when I release the gas in 1st or 2nd gear above 1500 rpm. I love driving it. It handles very well. You can tell it's a sports car because you feel every bump but it is very smooth. The suspension is pretty stiff but handles most bumps with ease. Braking is very good. Pedal feels very firm under my foot and doesn't give any when I stop hard. The emergency brake doesn't lock up the rear tires as well as I would like it to but its not a major issue. I have driven in the rain several times so far and have not hydroplaned once. The car looks amazing to me. I love this body style and the paint looks new with a couple of scratches here and there but it IS 6 years old. I am very happy with it despite the Ford "reputation" of being unreliable. My car makes 3 Fords in my family and all of them run like new. Overall the car is a dream to drive. I would recommend this car to anyone who has the opportunity to buy one.

Pay NO attention to the "Fords are not reliable" myth spread by import fans. They ARE reliable, and have been for DECADES.

Our family has put over 320,000 miles on one Ford with very few (and very inexpensive) repairs. We've owned 4 Mustangs and none has ever had a single break down.

I was at a Mustang show recently where a guy had his 2002 GT up for sale. It looked brand new inside and out. I was shocked when I asked the mileage and was told "Just over 200,000!!

Consumer Reports ran an article in Oct. of 2007 on long-lasting vehicles and the one with the highest mileage with no problems was a FORD!! It had just shy of HALF A MILLION miles.

2002 Ford Mustang GT Premium Coupe 4.6 from North America

Summary:

Dollar for dollar, the best car I have ever owned

Faults:

Only faults at the early stages of ownership were the drivers side seat belt tensioner that rattled, and the area of rug right next to the gas pedal.

Dealer fixed the seat belt rattle twice, and it came back twice, and I have learned to ignore it.

Rug was patched with leather by an interior shop, and 100000 miles later it's is still doing its job.

At 105000 I had the plugs changed and put all new coil overs. Several were bad, so I replaced them all.

General Comments:

This car is taxi cab reliable with a affordable sports car shell. The car has been driven every day to work, back and forth; on average 90 miles a day. I have never replaced a light bulb, signal bulb, or interior bulb. Radio works fine. AC has its original charge and still blows cold.

Outside of brakes, rotors and maintenance items, this car has performed better than my 1990 Honda Accord, which by the time it had 100K on it, already had a new water pump, clutch was bad, multiple exhaust systems replaced and more that I forgot about.

My Mustang GT has without a doubt proved to be the most reliable and trust worthy car I have owned in the last 15+ years.
