1993 Ford Ranger LX 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Good truck for the money

Faults:

Gasoline gauge - A monster to fix. It took me two days to empty the gas in the tank, bring down the gas tank, fix the gas sensor unit and bring the tank back up again.

Gasoline filler neck - This part has two parts. An inner hose and an external hose. For some reason it was leaking big time gas on floor. In order to fix, the gas tank had to be brought down. Felt like my life was over. Lot's of headache. Just left it like that and gave up. Use to take 20 minutes at the gas pump to fill half a tank.

General Comments:

Overall performance was good. Tough truck. Good price.

Just inspect the gauges on the dash to make sure they all work, and make sure the gas tank or filler neck is not leaking.

1993 Ford Ranger XLT Regular Cab 2.3L 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

I love this truck, get a truck, a Ford truck

Faults:

Truck didn't have a muffler when I got it; replaced with pull-it from a junkyard for $10.

Replaced bad computing piece that sends different currents of voltage to each spark plug, forgot the name of unit, but it was $100 for the part new, easy fix. Replaced at 160,000.

Just routine maintenance other than above, and I change my oil and filter ever 3,000 miles.

I get an average of 25 MPG using it in city and highway.

General Comments:

Love the truck, great on gas, great in the woods, I drive it to work every day. Only thing is, just no room in the cab, so when I go out with my buddies we all pile in their more seated cars, so I'm actually saving gas, but all I need is room for 2, myself and a girl.

1993 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

A very reliable little truck!

Faults:

Replaced the radiator.

General Comments:

This has been a very reliable truck overall. In the 4 years I have owned it, I have replaced brake pads once and put a new radiator in it.

The transmission does a couple weird things every once in a while, but at 216,000 kms, they're not major and I won't complain too much about it.

It does seem a little underpowered for a 4.0 L in such a little truck, and is not easy on gas, but there's much worse out there.

I'd recommend buying a Ranger to anybody, this truck has never failed me.

1993 Ford Ranger Super Cab 4L from North America

Summary:

Still running strong at 205,335 miles

Faults:

We've replaced the clutch 2 times, and replaced the headers once. I also had to replace the shifter knob... long story. The truck got in an accident with a Toyota and a semi about 8 years ago, which ended up with us replacing the whole back-end of the truck. Also the heater core has gone out, but I haven’t replaced that yet.

General Comments:

Great condition for an old truck.

Everything on the inside looks like when we got it, except on the driver side there’s a few butt marks.

The seats in the back are great for humiliating my friends when they have to sit in them, they look like they were made for a 3 years old.

1993 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0L V6 from North America

Summary:

Very Reliable Truck For The Buck

Faults:

-The water pump went at 334,457 KM's. The original factory pump.

-Replaced the water pump again at 334,474 KM's

(20 KM's later because my dumb friend let the engine freeze up causing the impeller to twist off the shaft.

- Nothing else since I owned it.

General Comments:

I like this truck. considering it's free. And the best part is this is the 3rd Ranger I own. I have an 86' a 91' and this 93'. Anyway the truck is very reliable as th Ranger Always has been till the new models came out in 1999. It's a comfortable, nice running truck.

1993 Ford Ranger xlt 4.0 from North America

Summary:

Has been surprisingly dependable

Faults:

The 4.0L 4WD Ranger has been a reliable and inexpensive vehicle over 13 years of ownership. Only problem under 50,000 miles was a leak in the radiator that was replaced under warranty.

Did not have another mechanical problem until over 150,000 miles when the 4WD transfer case rubber sleeve needed repaired, which I did on my own.

At 200,000 miles the ball joints needed replaced.

At 250,000 miles the clutch hydraulic cylinder started leaking, so replaced the cylinder and clutch.

The windshield seemed to have some kind of affinity for wayward stones as I had to replace it 3 times.

General Comments:

The 4.0L engine was worth the extra cost for performance and I still managed to average 20 miles per gallon highway driving (at 55mph).

I realize this version of the ranger is nearing the end of its cycle and will probably be re-tooled to remain competitive. I'd like to see the gas mileage improve for the 4WD version and keep a full-length bed as an option. Ford should consider a manual version the the shift lever removed from the floor position so there is more leg room in the center when its occasionally needed.

I've retired it from everyday use now and keep it around for times when I need to haul something. I expect to get 300,000 miles.
