1993 Ford Ranger XLT from North America

Summary:

Best $1600 ever spent

Faults:

Since I've had my truck, only one minor thing has happened. My muffler hanger broke off, causing the tail pipe to hang very low. The problem was an easy, low-cost fix.

My brakes have started going bad, which is expected with any car/truck after a period of time.

And finally, just recently, my clutch has been acting up. It is sometimes difficult to put the shifter in first gear.

General Comments:

My Ranger was purchased for $1600 in early 2004. Honestly, I think the previous owner of the truck was out of her ming selling it at such a low price! This truck has been very good to me so far. A few minor problems have occurred, but were easily fixed.

I absolutely love this truck and it is so much fun to drive.

1993 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0 liter V6 from North America

Summary:

Best bang for the buck

Faults:

At 97000 miles I had to replace the power steering pump.

At 99000 miles I had to replace brakes, calipers, and spindles.

At 107000 miles I had to replace the water pump.

General Comments:

My Ford has been very reliable and dependable. If I had the money right now I would buy a new one.

My 4 liter engine produces ample power with its new air filter and muffler.

This truck sounds great from idle at 7oo rpm all the way to red line at 4900 rpm.

I wish the rear jump seats were larger for my little brothers though.

What kind of exhaust do you have?

1993 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0 from North America

Summary:

This is an off-road dream

Faults:

The radiator went at 170,000 which is not bad at all. replaced clutch at 172,000. paint is excellent, very rugged tough truck. 4x4 works like a dream and no problems with transmission. idle air control valve went at 175,000 but that's nothing major. seats have minor wear for a 11 year old truck.

General Comments:

This truck is built ford tough just like the add says. I have flow master exhaust and 3 inch PA body lift with 30.5inch bf Goodrich mud tires. the 3.0 turns them like nothing. the 3.73 axle ratio with limited slip is a dream come true. barely need 4x4. this truck has excellent turning radius and is awesome on the trails.

1993 Ford Ranger Super Cab from North America

Summary:

Good bargain for the money

Faults:

My ranger has only had the battery changed and front shocks at 120,000 miles in 1997.

An alternator and serpentine belt changed in 1998.

Now currently working on the front suspension drive link at 250,000, all other parts original.

General Comments:

This little Ranger has been a gem to the family. It still has its get up and go, but the current problem with the front suspension is a little aggravating. We can't get the steering shaft back on the gear box and I have no manaul, but other than the current problem, the seats are worn, but it drives good.

1993 Ford Ranger XL 2.3 liter 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Good for short trips

Faults:

The clutch slips.

There are many rattles.

General Comments:

The seats are horribly uncomfortable, especially for trips over 30 minutes.

No power steering makes for poor handling especially in parking lots etc.

There is very little power in the 2.3 liter engine, especially for a truck.

About 20 mpg with me getting the best acceleration possible.

No four wheel drive makes for bad handling on the ice.

There is very little space in the cab and behind the seat.

The Ranger is a great little truck. I bought a '93 XLT new in '93 and drove it until late 2000. I never had a single problem of any kind with it. When I traded it I had intended to get a 2001 Ranger, but Dodge bid $2100 more on the old truck than Ford did, so I got a Dakota. This year, since Dakotas are now dog-ugly, too big (no regular cab) and only come with the gas guzzling 6 or 8, I went back to Ranger.
