1997 Ford Ranger XL review from North America
"Great truck!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Engine light came on, appears to be emissions related. A friend of mine is an auto technician. Hooked up a Snap on diagnostic computer to it and came to the conclusion that it's an oxygen sensor of sorts. Interior light would not shut off so, I removed the bulb. Electronic 4X4 selection button seems to not be working a couple of times on me. I noticed on a long trip that the 4X4 high and low lights were flashing just before the 4X4 did not work. I have not been able to get my friend to diagnose this problem yet. The door ajar light stays on even when the doors are closed properly, again... my friend said this was due to a faulty switch. A sudden jerk appears at highway speeds at times... my friend this this is due to fuel being cut off suddenly again, due to a emissions or fuel component. Tracing this down now.
General comments?
Over all.. the truck has been bullet proof. I've owned 3 Rangers previously 87 STX 4X4 Supercab w/2.9 L, and 93 standard cab 4X2 (With a 2.3 4 cyl, which I would NEVER recommend to anyone due to the fact that it is so underpowered)
Overall...great trucks if you are willing to accept the fact that no one builds a perfect vehicle...
