1989 Ford Taurus LX 3.8L V6 fuel injected from North America

Summary:

A great piece of technology

Faults:

Valve cover gasket.

General Comments:

This car has never left me sitting, I had to replace the valve cover gasket when I bought it, but other that that I only ever had to put gas in it and change the oil.

Parts for this car are expensive, but never have had to buy any.

My previous car, a 87 Taurus GL was that same way, that car still runs great!

1989 Ford Taurus LX Wagon 3.6 V6 from North America

Summary:

Total piece of junk!

Faults:

Everthing! This car has got to be the most unreliable car ever manufactered. I put more money into the vehicle than what I paid for it.

Granted it was used, but transmission at 70K... then engine throws a rod at 72K. Not to mention the A/C compressor, alternator and numerous other smaller components. Also, the fact that Ford knew about these tranmission problems and wouldn't do anything about them. My Brother had a Taurus GL and guess what!!! 80K.. transmission!!! What a piece of garbage!!!! I have vowed never to buy another Ford vehicle and suggest you do the same. My attitude may have been different if they stood behind the product.

General Comments:

Avoid Ford at all costs!!!

Sounds like this car was just poorly maintained and abused before this owner bought it and he suffered the consequences. I have owned several of these over the years of various years and configurations and have had incredibly good service out of mine with only the recommended maintenance. The first one was an '86 that I sold at 100,000 after years of trouble-free service. I still have a '99 with the 24v 3.0 litre and 80k on the clock-again, trouble-free except for the standard maintenance. Too bad he's had such a bad experience, but I think he may have bought someone else's victim of abuse.

1989 Ford Taurus GL wagon 3.0 V6 from Norway

Faults:

The only thing I did to this car while I had it, was having the rear brakes rebuilt, plus trying to get rid of a little bit of rust here and there. The engine and transmission was always trouble free.

The only bad things were:

- Expensive to own (especially due to parts prices).

- A little rust.

General Comments:

I loved the car! I don't have it any more, due to some unfortunate happenings, but it was a great car. Comfortable, powerful, loaded with equipment, reliable, good looking... could I ask for more? :)
