1999 Ford Windstar sel 3.8 from North America

Summary:

So far, dependable.

Faults:

Rack and pinion steering had to be replaced

Tie rod had to be replaced

Check Engine Light has been on for 3 years

Driver's door lock must be locked manually

Automatic doors don't always work properly.

General Comments:

I have had two Ford Windstars, a 1995 and a 1999 and haven't had any major problems with either of them. My mechanics tell me never to buy another Windstar, especially the 3.8 engine. But other than a few minor repairs, I've been very happy with my van. The check engine light has been on for 3 years, but I took it to the mechanic, had a quick repair done, got it to pass emissions, and then the light came back on a few days later. The van is very comfortable for our family of five (and some friends.) I love the quad seating, the reverse sensor that warns me if something is behind my van when backing up, the traction control, etc.

1999 Ford Windstar LX from North America

Summary:

You might as well throw your money away if you plan on spending it on a Ford

Faults:

I've had the car for four months, and the transmission already went out, and the drivers side motor for the automatic windows went out too in this small period of time.

I would not recommend that someone buy this car; it was a mistake, and I was told that I should not, but I didn't listen, so that's my problem, but don't let it be yours..

General Comments:

I would not buy another Ford.

1999 Ford Windstar Select from North America

Summary:

Excellent running, comfort, machine

Faults:

Oxygen sensors, traction control.

General Comments:

I love this van. I bought this 4 years ago and the only thing I need to replace as of right now is the oxygen sensors; other than that I could not have asked for a better car.

I paid 9900.00 in 2004... the van retailed new at 35000.00... I would be happy still if I paid full price.

It is a gem, fully loaded, never a problem... I cannot say more about it. I guess it's all in the way you take care of something, on how long you can have it without problems.

1999 Ford Windstar LX 3.8L V6 from North America

Faults:

I have a 99 Ford Windstar LX. Bought it this year with 81,000 miles. It now has over 84,000 miles.

I noticed like some of the other comments, my trans jumps on a rolling start, but no other problems.

My O/D light flashes sometimes, but not always. If I stop and turn car off, and re-start it, the light goes out. Don't seem to have any problems yet.

My check engine light came on the other day, so I bought a OBD 2 code reader ($50 at Walmart) and checked it. The code reader said it was that the fuel was too rich or too lean, so I put octane booster in the tank and have not had any problems since.

Other than this, my wife and I, and our 3 kids love our Windstar van.

General Comments:

To the comments that regard the electrical problems, I have found that if the A/C --TACH--RADIO--BLOWER MOTOR--LIGHTS IN DASH-- ECT... This is probably caused by the master cylinder leaking on the fuse #10, which controls most of the listed items, so if you have this problem check your fuses, and if it is blown, then your master cylinder (brake fluid reservoir) might have a leak on the base or one of the hoses.

1999 Ford Windstar SE 3.8 from North America

Summary:

The windstar se is an excellent and dependable van

Faults:

I love my Ford Windstar SE! It is a 2000 and it has been great for me and my family. The only issue we have had with it was the transmission which we had to have rebuilt. I think it was worth the money. The van is great on gas and there are no leaks, no electrical issues or anything like that. I would definitely buy another one. I am a ford fan anyway. I feel bad for everybody that has had so many issues with their windstars. My husband is a mechanic so we make sure that the van is maintained properly. The transmission deal was a freak thing that just happened.

I would absolutely love to get another windstar when we decide to trade this one in. All of my air conditioning things work and there haven't been any computer or cluster issues with it either. This van has been the best vehicle that my husband and I have ever owned and we've had several different types of cars and trucks. The windstar is roomy and comfortable as well. It does excellent on long road trips too. I love the windstar se!

General Comments:

My windstar has been very dependable. When other vehicles are down I can get in my van and just go with no problems at all.

I love the reclining seats. My interior is cloth and it is in excellent shape. No tares or anything. It is a very reliable van and I am extremely happy with it.
