1997 Honda Civic HX 1.6 liter VTEC-E from North America

Summary:

Great car, fun to drive, with good gas mileage!!

Faults:

Front engine Mount 67,000.

Two CV Joints 67,000.

85,000 the same cv joints went bad again repair shop replaced under warranty.

The Bearings in the transmission went at 100,000.

The Clutch was replaced also at 100,000. The shop said it was really close to going.

100,000 miles 02 sensor went covered under extended warranty.

All other repairs where general maintenance. Like tune up, timing belt at 95,000, battery, and the other three belts around 67,000.

General Comments:

This car is very reliable and gets great gas mileage. It has not gotten me stuck anywhere. When its about to break it lets you know. I drive Pizzas for a living and average around 25 mpg. Which is not very good, but I do a lot of idling. Also I am very heavy on the gas sometimes. Before I delivered pizzas was over 30.

For anyone with a Honda car in 95-97 check to see if you have an extended warranty. It saved me three hundred dollars when my O2 sensor went and, I got a free tune up and oil change. Honda is offering this because some cars did not pass their emissions test and this is there way of making it up. It covers 14 yrs or 150,000 miles.

One bad thing Honda did in 97 civics was run the dome light, and keyless entry through the factory radio. I bought the car used and it already had an aftermarket cd player. So now I have no keyless and the doom light dose not turn on when you open the door.

I love the factory HX rims, but I run through front tires like crazy with my driving style.

All in all I love my car and I think my next one may be a new Civic SI.

1997 Honda Civic DX 1.6 petral from North America

Summary:

Dependable, but cheap just like the rest!

Faults:

Front CV boots (both sides), water pump, clutch master cylinder, shift boot, sun visor.

General Comments:

All in all the Civic is the best small car available in the U.S. today. The one I have has no Power Steering, Air Conditioning and is the most basic car out there. The car has been very reliable, but I am a very picky person and with my vast knowledge of cars I have noticed many problems.

Poor sheet metal.

Poor paint.

Has too many annoying noises and vibrations.

Shakes and twitches on freeway.

Not able to get the alignment right.

Hood has rusted and causes vibrations that sound like a bad belt.

Loud and very slow.

Gear box is too loud and rough.

Since most of your compliants about this car would have been evident on a test drive and/or a cursory inspection of the vehicle, I fail to see why you bought it.

Yeah, my hood on my Honda is just like yours except it is cause I hit a DEER!

1997 Honda Civic Si Coupe from North America

Summary:

This car looks and drives like a dream

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

I love this car. It's my favorite car ever - better then the Jeep I had previously.

The only thing I don't like about it is it's kind of rough on the road, but that's to be expected from a small car.

I haven't had to change anything yet - except general things.

We had to change some "general" things on our Civic too. Like the ENGINE at 90,000 miles. Hope you have better luck!!

1997 Honda Civic HX from North America

Faults:

Not much really. Dond regular oil changes. Clutch seems to be alittle rough lately and may need to change it, but it's probably because I was getting used to the stick.

General Comments:

Great car. Runs great. Gives good gas mileage. 30 city and 35's highway (although that seems to be lower than supposed to be for the HX, not sure why).

Seat ergonomics are not good and give us some back ache on trips. Since its low, we need to bend to get in and seating position is uncomfortable because of that.

Ability to fold the back seats helps a lot when hauling stuff. We bought in a big entertainment center about 6ft long.

All in all, good car.
