1997 Honda Civic DX review from North America
"Fun and reliable car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Windows came off the tracks. Easy fix though.
Transmission and clutch replacement at 100k miles (previous owner was hard on the car)
General comments?
Great car overall. Great on gas mileage and cheap on maintenance.
Performance upgrades are relatively cheap. D16Y7 non-Vtec head swap with a D16Y8 Vtec gave a decent power increase and (obviously) Vtec for only $300 (if you know where to shop).
I've driven this car across the country multiple times (2500+ mile trips) without any problems.
My Civic is heavily modded, but even on a stock setup it's a great reliable car.
The only weak-point engine wise on the vehicle are the connecting rods. If you intend to turbo or supercharge your civic beyond 260HP I'd suggest replacing the rods with something stronger.
