You do not know what you are talking about, the Civic Si is one of the best cars on the market. Stop crying about how you can't take care of it. The car is not the problem, you are. You must understand previous owners sometimes run chargers, NOS, or even turbos on these cars and there is a good chance you don't even know about it. The car is all electronic, you must understand that many sensors create the performance in the car. You must look harder for the problem instead of crying about it.

"The car makes an odd noise above 50MPH"

--gee...I wonder...it's an Si... could this maybe be the VTEC kicking in... I wonder?

Buddy, you don't know what you're talking about. The SI is an awesome car!! I love mine... and by the way... those funny noises that kick in after 50 miles an hour... it my favorite part of the car!!!

I own a 99 Civic Si coupe and it simply rules. Even if you have only a mild interest in sport driving, you would be wise to invest in one. This guys comments sound unfounded... possibly an American made car owner/Honda hacker looking to make a fuss... just my opinion.

I bought my 2000 Black Civic Si from a dealership that received it on a lease return. With 14,500 miles and a sticker price of $14,900 I couldn't resist. I previously owned a 1992 Civic DX Hatchback and a 1991 Civic Si Hatchback. I gave the 2000 Civic Si Coupe a whirl and I instantly had to have it! The only downfall that may make the car more expensive would be the tickets you will most definitely receive if speeding because the cops know that the kids love import Hondas. They like to "tune" them and add aftermarket parts to make the 160 horse rocket just that much faster. The next move may be to the 2003 Civic Si Hatchback..."rally style"

I got my 2000 civic Si new from the dealer with 12 miles on it and have now driven it for 105,000 mostly trouble free miles. This car is fun to drive and I have driven it hard since new. I have resisted any urge to put any aftermarket modifications on it at all. The minor mechanical problems I have encountered so far are:

1). A bad front wheel bearing that was replaced incorrectly leading to a second replacement of the same bearing.

2). Driver side window that fell off it's track twice requiring me to rip the door apart to get it back on it's track functioning correctly.

3). A pesky check engine light warning that likes to trigger on cold starts if I don't shut it off and restart the car after a short warm up cycle. No drive-ability problems/symptoms just a need to reset the computer when it occurs. I never even bothered to get the code read due to the lack of symptoms when it happens.

4). with this many miles driven I have only needed one set of rear brake rotors, and a first turning of the front rotors with new pads. exhaust is stock and still fine.

That's the entire repair history so far on this snappy well mannered car to this point. Yup, it needed a timing belt replacement over forty thousand miles ago, so it goes in this week before it breaks and I munch the valves. If you can find a clean one, buy it, and enjoy!

Well in response to the last comments... I found a clean one!!! 52K miles, original owner, and best of all its Electron Blue Pearl. I have driven it over 10k miles in the last 4 months alone. Great Car, Good Gas Mileage and very reliable. Not to mention its fun to drive. Aftermarket upgrades are cheap, and you can find them anywhere online. Only complaint, as previously mentioned is the noise from the interior, Gets a little squeaky at times.

In response to the comment made 19th Apr, 2001 at 14:16.

People put NOS and turbos in these cars because they can't afford real sports cars! A civic is NOT a race car, so don't' bother putting all your fancy little gadgets on it, it's not worth it.

Reversing is fast? Excuse me?

The only reason these cars are any good is because of the V-tec and good/strong little motors. Everything else on the car is well... I would buy something different, I couldn't stand being like every other ricer out there. That's why my VR6 jetta is getting a supercharger cause you don't see something like that everyday.

10th Jul 2007, 09:22

I bet the only reason he's supercharging his Jetta is because he needs more power to out-perform the Civics.

I love my 99 Si.. I love to surprise all the Honda haters what the motor really has. I have only 2 problem with it was the axles and the wheel bearings, its probably because its lowered and such.

Also the B16a Head is the best Honda ever made... VTEC OWNS.

And the k20.. over rated..

30th Nov 2008, 11:42

Let them hate, because I have owned 4 Hondas including the 00 SI. They're just mad cause they can't have one... hondas 4 life.

I just bought my 2000 SI with 59k from original owner. The SI is an excellent car.

Hahaha. Funny :)

My Civic was pretty fast at everything, including falling apart. It went to the junk yard before it hit 100,000 miles. Very poorly built car. Never again.
