1988 Honda CRX HF 1.5 Liter Inline 4 from North America

Summary:

My Honda may outlast me!

Faults:

Bought at 150k miles

175k miles had to fix the brakes and clutch (worn out)

215k miles replaced one CV joint (did both at same time though)

250k miles battery died pushed the car down hill and started it then bought a $40 battery

310k miles still going strong and even the a/c still works.

General Comments:

Just like my 275k mile 85 prelude before they've lasted me forever. Fun to drive and I enjoy the SUV slalom on the way to work while getting 40+ mpg. The engine is only 63 hp, but in a 2,000 lb car it still moves pretty quick. I added some larger steel wheels to the car and it can ashame most sports cars on the road.

1988 Honda CRX Si 1.6 from North America

Summary:

This car is forced to be reckon with

Faults:

When I first got the car, the alternator was bad, so the guy that owned it, subtracted the original amount so that I can fix the alternator.

Replaced the timing belt and water pump. It didn't break, I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't if I was driving.

Distributor broke when I first got the car. I accidentally hit the curb while backing up, but either than that, if you take care of it real well, nothing really bad will happen to it.

And of course, the typical maintenance, like brake pads were also replaced.

General Comments:

I remember when I was 14 years old, I used to ride in the back of my brother in law's crx (which I own now) and I just fell in love with the car. He had a swapped engine which was an Integra Ls. It pulled!!

So after dealing with a 1986 Celica Gt-s, I wanted a reliable car, but I had a tight budget. Right when I was about to buy a cheap car, my brother in law told me about the crx (which he had sold to his friend Chris). Sooner or later, it was mine for only $1800. The car had 172,000 miles on it. It still pulls, and it hogs the ground and it is such a light car that it can take any car on the road! But... It recently got stolen. I wish I still had the car and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. Cheap car, great gas mileage and great looking if plan to fix up.

1988 Honda CRX Si 1.6 SOHC 16v from North America

Summary:

Very reliable and will run forever, it's a Honda

Faults:

Engine light on.

Valve cover leaking bad.

Wheel bearing bad.

General Comments:

I love CRX's. Has to be one of the coolest Japanese cars ever made. This is my second CRX. I had an '87 with auto transmission previously. It was quick too. The Si I bought now needs work but that's some of the fun of having it to me.

You can go to a chain autoparts store and buy a Code Reader that will tell you what the engine light means... Even better, you can push the ERASE button on the reader and TURN THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT OFF!!

1988 Honda CRX HF 1.5 from North America

Summary:

After all is said and done, I still love it

Faults:

Well, since 97, I've replaced a number of things. At 210,000 miles I'm now replacing the engine, which for a car this old and this many miles... is expected.

General Comments:

I like it overall, it's small, quick... but Honda overlooked some small details, such as; AC/heater console cracking in the center and the rear hatch springs are crappy.

It's an agile car, and a gas saver.

Oh, and the seals in the rear hatch leak.

1988 Honda CRX HF 1.5L PGM-FI from North America

Summary:

Excellent buy, great gas mileage, chick-magnet

Faults:

Replaced clutch at 186,000 miles, but I learned to really "DRIVE" a stick on this car so I hold myself partly responsible.

Replaced CV joints at the time of replacing the clutch.

General Comments:

The brakes couldn't be better.

My CRX is very quick, especially for a 1.5L.

I will probably never go without a CRX. This car is just so reliable and fun to drive. My parents have a Corvette and tell me they love my car like it's their other Vette. There is really quite a bond between CRX owners, and hope that everybody that owns a 'Rex' and sees this will contact me and maybe we could exchange info about the CRX!

I have a 1988 Honda CRX. A family member bought the car from the dealer in 1988, and sold it to me for $1.00 in 1998 with 122,000 miles on it. I have since put 20,000 miles on it, and it is doing great!! I can afford to buy a new car. I just cannot seem to let go of a car that is so fun to drive, still has a lot of pep and can get out of its own way, and has not (knock on wood) given me any major expense so far. Why would I want car payments? I was so lucky I only paid a buck for it!!
