"Looks good and that's all"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

My Tiburon was broken into at 200 km. there was $3000.00 damage. ICBC covered.

The plastic trim on the roof came down, which was placed under warranty.

At about 2000 km the car wouldn't start, if I got it started my windows would not work and my lights would not turn off with the keys out of ignition and switch off. Being under warranty they replaced my control sensor panel, thinking this was the problem.

A week later the car still wouldn't

start, they replaced all ignition sensors, after being back and forth with my car, because they didn't know what could be wrong. they also gave me 1 new key with a new sensor.

I have had shifting problems with my car which have not been resolved.

The car is also not starting every time either, again!

General comments?

I have not heard of any other people having problems with their 2003 Tiburon's. Trust me I've searched, I just want to let people know what could go wrong and that it may take the dealership forever to fix the problem because they don't know how!

Bummer of a deal to hear all the problems you've had. All you can say is ya got a "dud" it happens. Get rid of the car as soon as you lease or your last payment is made.

I've owned mine 3 weeks now and so far so good. I am completely enjoying it. Just waiting for the aftermarket parts to catch up with this thing.

I am curious what your shifting problems are in your tib? I have had numerous situations where the gear shift gets stuck between 1st and 2nd or 1st and neutral. Anyone else have this problem?

You're not the only one. I was thinking about buying a new 2003 tiburon, but after reading the reviews at www.carreview.com I am not going to buy a tiburon, it sounds like a lemon car.

I have had my Tiburon now for about 4 months and I love everything about it except for my transmission (6 spd) making a weird squeak when making gear changes. If anybody else is running into the same problem please post it.

I own a 2001 Tiburon with the 2.0L and auto transmission with about 28k miles on it. I had no problems until the temperature cooled down to about 30 degrees or less this past week. Now it has been impossible to start at times. Cranking and cranking, but nothing more. I even called roadside assistance and had them send someone by. We finally got it started and I immediately took it to the dealer that it was purchased from. They kept it for about 8 hours, done several tests, and tried to sell me a $425 maintenance package while telling me that it wouldn't fix my problem. I would love to know what is causing the car not to start. Is it not enough fuel? Not enough air? I am seriously considering a trade in at this point, but I know that I will lose money since I have put so many miles on the car.

P.S. Now the CD Player will not accept CD's at all. It's getting worse!!

I've had my 2003 Tiburon for five months now and I am ready to trade it in for a 2003 Mustang I have had nothing but problems from the day I got it home, My windows won't roll down, the key always gets suck in the ignition and the paint is chipping off. I've had to have the hood and bumper painted two times.

2003 GT.

I have had my sunroof stick, but I believe it may of been built up new grease. The supplied tool works.

Recently I went all the way to work with the back wiper on full and all electrics running. It was cold and snowing. At lunchtime when I started my car the clock blinked on and off and the stereo wouldn't work. Soon after my locks wouldn't work and now the gages all go to full when I turn on the ignition. The gas stays at full with the ignition off.

Dealer says it may be a relay. I will find out tomorrow.

I hope so as apart from that I love the car. Second sticks a bit when cold, but I think this is normal at -20ºC and I OK when it warms up.

I find the car paint looks very scratched when dirty. I think the gloss coating starches easily and catches the light, but don’t believe the paint is damaged.

Did anyone have to use the jack yet? If you haven't I suggest you pull out of it's hole before you need it.

I still love the car though. Lots of nice detailing - insurance was very expensive.

I have heard the have had problems with the paint, alternators and CV axles.

Simon Wiles.

Hello to all.

I just happened upon this site while looking for some information on my 2003 Tiburon.

I have also had nothing but problems with my "new" Tiburon. I've owned it for 14 months now, have had 5 paint repairs, which still aren't resolved. FYI, we took the car to a body shop specializing in paint at the recommendation of our attorney, and have learned that the primer was left on the car long enough prior to painting that it cured, and therefore the paint doesn't want to stick to it! If you have unusual clear coat, chipping, or paint peeling with yours, PLEASE go to a GOOD body shop for a review. Get it in writing- you'll need it to persuade Hyundai to do anything more than minor repairs. Mine needs to be stripped of paint and primer, and completely repainted, which Hyundai says they won't do b/c the ridiculous paint problems must be MY fault!

The sunroof motor was recalled, as it likes to stop on it's own when opening- to the person who thought it was grease, please ask your dealer if this recall is still open on your car. If it is, it needs the motor replaced!

Vent slats in the center console that direct air flow to the driver and passenger broke within two weeks, and while waiting for parts to arrive, the disk on the shifter knob that tells where the gears are broke off leaving a very sharp screw sticking up into my hand when driving.

Also have a gearing problem with 2nd, it never wants to go into 2nd without grinding, but was told this was normal for the gear ratio on this model. Whatever! Also have problems with Reverse- good luck getting the car into reverse if you didn't shift it there before parking it! It doesn't go in if it's cold, no matter what you do!

Got some unofficial info on the clutching mechanism from a dealer who has had numerous complaints. Evidently, they're getting complaints that the car makes a ticking noise when you start it up, and sometimes when idling. Hyundai has not recalled this yet as there haven't been enough complaints to issue one, but most clutches are requiring replacement by 30K miles. He offered to go ahead and replace it, but I decided to wait and see what happens as I think our attorney might want to know.

Sound system rattles horribly with high bass music, told the dealership didn't hear anything, but I was probably listening to my music too loud!

Braking problem, trunk problem, mirror problems... you name it! These aren't bugs, folks, they're lemons, and we've become Beta Testers for Hyundai! Don't be afraid to MAKE A SCENE to get your NEW CAR FIXED! They won't like it, but they won't fix it unless you insist. Call Customer Relations to file a complaint, it's helped me a lot! 800-633-5151 5a-6p PST. Best wishes- please keep me informed if anything new happens, or feel free to email me with questions or comments! KrickChik1@aol.com.

I have a 2003 Tiburon and absolutely love driving the car. The only problem, so far, that I am trying to find out about is that the car seems to have a loose wire or something. Occasionally the interior lights will flash on an off. Tonight however, I went outside and the parking lights were on. I guess its not the first time. Nothing in the car was turned on. Once I started in and turned it off again they turned off.

The first time it happened I took it to the dealership whom of course couldn't find anything wrong with it.

Let me know if anyone else if having problems like this please. tiburon@swendal.com.

Thanks, and best of luck.

I've had my Tiburon V6 GT since April 03. All I can say so far, so good. I live in NY on Long Island, I get about 30 MPG even though I have the automatic, which is only quoted at 26 MPG Highway. My only real complaint is one I saw someone else noticed, which is severe rattling with the bassier music. I've learned its actually the door rattling, sometimes the window (perhaps due to the way the window is never secured). All in all, I love the car, does tick a little when starting, but honestly, and I'm sure you all agree, this is the car that when you buy it, you can't help to have beaten on it atleast once or twice. Its quick, and after a month you will have tested out its speed a few times. I recommend it to anyway who isn't over 6 ft tall.

I bought my 2003 Hyundai Tiburon last April. I have been having problems with my power windows. I brought it in and they fixed them, well sorta. They said something in the window needed some lubricant. I thought that sounded strange, because eventually the lubricant would come off and I would need to go back and have my windows lubed again. I took my car in again and they decided to order a switch for the driver side window. I have to have it installed this week. I don't expect that this will solve the problem. Anyone else having this problem? Also, I noticed someone had a sunroof motor recall for their 2003 Tiburon. Should I have received a recall message about this? I just had something recalled on the brakes or brake fluid leakage. I brought it in for that, I expect that it was fixed.

I have owned my 2003 Tiburon V-6 GT since June of 04. I have to say I fell in love with the car when I bought it, and was in love with it for a few months until it seems like every other week I have to take it to the dealer to get something fixed.

My first problem was the sunroof shade was broken. The little legs that run on the tracks inside the roof broke off because the shade is a piece of crap, being two pieces they get stuck on top of each other quite frequently when opening it. Well it happed that they got stuck, quite near the back, so I was under the impression that the shade was fully open, well it wasn't and the sunroof snapped off two of the legs causing the shade to be even more horrible. Got that fixed, and now six months later I have lost another leg due to the same problem.

My paint job also has had a lot of chips that were due to defects in the paint. When I visited the collision center to get them repaired I was informed that the 03 Tiburons were known to do this. I'm glad they fixed it under warranty, but I can't afford to take my car in every other month to get the new paint defects fixed.

My driver's side seat now rocks. I have about a 1/2 inch of movement when I stop or accelerate. Took this in and was told that this is normal, they checked it against my passenger seat as well as another Tiburon and said everything looked OK. This has got to be one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. If it is true then the seat is a piece of crap, but I really don't believe that it is supposed to be like this, it wasn't in the beginning.

My battery died on me when the car was less than a year old. I am luck because I was out of town the week it started to go. My sister also owns a Hyundai Santa Fe and she has had two new batteries put in her car. Apparently Hyundai makes pretty crappy batteries.

Now for the ultimate problem! During one of the last days of January my car decided to not start. It was the coldest day my car had seen at -3 F. Granted the car should still start under freezing conditions, but I took it to be a froze gas line. It took three days to get above freezing so I could test my theory out about frozen gas lines. Apparently that wasn't it. Had the car towed into a dealership to get it inspected. I was told that my car was flooded, that they cleaned the plugs and it started fine. Went to pick my car up later that day, and they couldn't start the car again. SO they ran some tests, and now some codes showed up when they hooked it up, they didn't before according to the dealership. They decided that it was a faulty computer. It was looking for a restrictor or something that my car didn't have. I had already had the computer updated from one of the previous times I had to visit the dealership. They re-uploaded the program to my car and told me it would be OK. So I picked up my keys, and returned later on that evening with a friend to take it home. The car did not start again. So I left it there for a third attempt. They now decided that they would replace the computer all together. They did that called me told me the car was good to go to come pick it up. Learning my lesson the first two times, I called before and told them to go out and start it before I made a trip into pick it up. To my shock, well not really, it didn't start for them again! So now they are on their fourth attempt to fix my car to allow it to start after sitting for more than three hours.

All I can say is that I wish I didn't still owe money on my car because I would have a new one by now. I love the look of the car, but have had nothing, but problems since a month after I purchased it.

Oh yea I forgot in my other rant that I had a problem with my drivers side Power Window. The Window motor apparently was packed too tightly with grease, a common problem with the Tiburon Motors apparently. The grease slowly works it's way out of the motor and pushes apart the contacts, keeping the power from flowing through the motor and allowing the window to go up and down. To fix it they just replaced the motor, and it works great now. Too bad it was stuck down when the rain came!

I bought my 2003 Hyundai Tiburon new in January of 2003. It was great for a while. I have not had any major problems with the way the car runs. I have had it in the shop four different times for six different problems since January 2004. The first was for a recall on the brakes. The second time was because my drivers side door lock kept getting stuck in the locked position. I would have to turn the car off and take the key out of the ignition to use the remote to get my door unlocked. The third time I took it in I had three different problems. The passenger door lock assembly was getting stuck. The numbers on the radio kept going away. The paint on the hood and fenders is chipping like crazy. They fixed the door, ordered a new radio, and told me I would have to come back when the Hyundai Rep was there so he could look at the paint.

They finally called to tell me the new radio was in and when the Hyundai Rep would be in. Then I got another recall notice! This time about the gas tank. Long story short, they put in the new radio and fixed the recall and told me that the paint problems are all my fault. Apparently washing my car once a week is not good enough. I was told that I need to check it every night and rub off any bugs or bird "manure." I was also told that since it is black I need to wax it every month in the summer and every three months in the winter! They will however repaint just the hood in "Good Faith!"

I can't wait to get it paid down enough to trade it in.

Hi! I have owned my tiburon since july 2002. I have had three bad experiences with my hyundai tiburon v6 six speed the clutch went out three times before 19,000 miles. This car looks great, but the clutch used in this car is also used in the beta engine 4 cylinder. the trans sucks and I have filed for a lemon law case. But don't expect the factory to warranty this item after 11,000 miles because if you take it back you will be accused of racing or improper clutch use. I am currently trying to receive 12,000 signitures so tiburon owners will be warranted the full 100,000 miles e-mail me with you list of problems at www.twork_2000@yahoo.com.
