1991 Jeep Comanche Pioneer review from North America
"Fast, reliable, and rare, there's only one"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The front brakes needed to be replaced when I first owned it, I did that, then 4 months later, the callipers went out, causing me to redo the entire front brakes.
The oil was leaking from the rear seal ever since I purchased it.
There is piston ring blowby, I don't know when that started, but I found it out this summer.
Right now, the back brakes are worn to hell, and are hanging up.
General comments?
The specs: 1991, maroon, long bed, Pioneer package, 4X2, auto, 4.0L, CD, air, rear-sliding window, 185HP, 225 ft lbs. torque?
The only reason I bought this truck was because my friend owned one, his was a 1990, short bed, 4.0L manual, sport package. When he let me drive it, I fell in love with the truck. I was sick of driving my 1984 Toyota Corolla around, so I had to have a Comanche.
I really wanted a manual, but auto is fine, not as much performance though.
I do have air conditioning which is great for the summers around here.
I would recommend this truck to anyone, it's just a fun truck to drive. And very fast, lots of low-end torque. I really would have liked to find a 4X4 version.
My first winter with it was last year, and it got to 10 below zero (F), she started right up, absolutely no problem. The heater works GREAT, I stress great.
After 103,000 everything is original, except tires, brakes, battery, exhaust and CD. The only thing that irritates me is that Jeep has heads where they're not supposed to be.
They should put them back into production, I know at least 10 people who whould buy one brand new.
Another thing, I think the highest concentration of Comanches is in Kenosha, WI, I have counted 32 different Comanches!
