2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee from North America - Comments

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I have owned 2 Jeep Grand Cherokees and this will be my last. I have had nothing, but problems with both, and why I bought a second one is beyond me.

I have had all the Roter & break problems covered under warranty and not under warranty, sensor lights, Power Window... you name it!

At 40,000 miles my engine is completely shot and needs to be replaced. Jeep said "oh sorry the warranty has expired" and there is nothing they can do. I have had my car only serviced by Jeep dealers since it was new. I was quoted a price of 5500.00 to replace the engine and the air conditioning because when the cam shaft and push rods broke it went through my air compressor.

WILL I EVER BY ANOTHER JEEP??? NOT ON YOUR LIFE!!!

Chrysler does not stand behind their product... BUYER BE AWARE!

General comments?

I am sorry to hear that you have had problems with your Jeeps... personally I have owned two and have enjoyed both of them - and they have both saved my life! The first was a used 1997 or 98 Grand Cherokee (actually my husbands) and I was in a serious auto accident. A teenager was speeding, ran into the back of my Jeep and pushed me about 1/2 a block down the street (I was parked). It took two tow trucks to separate his grille from my driver's side wheel well, but I walked away from it with only whiplash. I was in another accident (person ran a light in front of me) in my current Jeep when it was only a few months old. Again - only whiplash! It was purchased brand new and always serviced at the dealership also. No problems! (Just an aside, when reading this form, it said that entries would not be accepted with incorrect grammar or spelling... you might want to spell check your entries from now on - break (brake), their (there) and by (buy)...just a suggestion and no offense intended.) I love my Jeep - sorry you haven't had such a nice experience as I have had.

I have owned Jeep's since I graduated from college... the progression being Wrangler, Cherokee, and Grand Cherokee Limited. All three were excellent cars. The first two lasted over 150K miles before parting with it to the enthusiast marketplace and my current Grand Cherokee Limited has over 240K miles! While I have have many maintenance issues, all were well within wear & tear expectations. I did have a transmission issue that was covered under an extended warranty and some trouble with the driver's side seat heater, but hey, if that's my only beef...

Go Jeep!

I agree with you and will never buy another jeep. They are just garbage on wheels, I have co-workers and friends whom owned jeeps and very few problems, but after they saw what I and others have gone through they got rid of them. Come on!!! a 2002 4.7Liter with the oil pan rusted to the point it leaked oil. That's just to name one!!! It only had 30K on it and was only driven to work. So far I'm up to 33 people that I talked out of getting another one of these junks.

It's your hard earned money...don't give it to Mopar...

It sounds to me as though you completely abused this car. A cam shaft going through the block and hitting the compressor? Sounds like it was more your fault than anything. My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the 4.7L has been everything, but a problem. Oh and its not like Chrysler programmed the engine to blow up when your warranty expired. You just had some bad luck on that, you can defame Jeep for that.

I do not agree I have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee limited and had it since new never had a problem with it and it just hit 120,000 miles it just sounds like you are beating on your jeeps.

Sadly, I wish I were beating on it, then I would understand why I had so many problems with it and I would understand why my co-workers had problems with theirs. I maintain mine better than most and it is strictly a tar buggy (I have a Honda ATV for the off-road stuff) This vehicle is like a ticking time bomb set to go off at any time. For those not having any problems, count your blessing, but at the first sign of problems sell it. Please understand that I'm trying to help by warning people... I have the receipts to prove it.

I have a 1999 Grand Cherokee with 109,000 miles on it and the only problems I have had are the front brakes which I took care of myself with drilled and slotted rotors and high performance pads and yes my oil pan is severely rusted to the point it worries me. I will be replacing it this week. I love my Jeep and refuse to get rid of it, just ask my wife. Its my second and it will not be my last.
