The major problem with the Wrangler is the catalytic converter. I drive 100 miles every day and have gone through 7 so far. Other than that, the worst thing about the jeep is that you have to deal with a dealership when you buy one. They have room for improvement.
I have over 200000 miles on this jeep and can't wait until the next 200000. This vehicle is so easy to work on and very reliable to drive. Parts are very easy to find as well as cheap. I will always keep this vehicle as a second car. It's a 4x4 convertible that you can take to work or on a camping trip and she always brings you home. I just waxed my jeep and after 200000 miles she looks like she just drove off the show room floor.
200k miles, man that really makes me feel good as I just picked up a '95 Rio Grande for $4500.00 with 90k on it. I bought it from a fellow who works at Microsoft that bought it brand new and kept it well serviced and strictly stock condition and never off roaded it. I looked for a long time for one in stock condition with the hard top. (the spare tire is even the factory temporary version) I have a cabin in the Spokane Wa. area and look forward to using it for hunting in the fall. as far as any modifications to my Rio Grande, I am just going to keep her the way it is from the factory and just maintain what I got. its the 4 cylinder with the five speed and I can't see the since of adding "knocked up tires" and jacking it 10' in the air as its just a little 2.5l engine. I guess by now you have figured out I am a senior owner of this Rio Grande.
Well I have put about 500 miles on my 95 Rio Grande since my last comment in Dec.'05 and really satisfied I bought it. As stated before, I wanted to keep it in nice stock condition like is, but did do a few things my self to improve the stiff ride. First thing I did was replace all the shackle bolts with greaseable fittings and that really helped for spring flex. Also I installed new Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks with the lowest setting of #1 for street use. Those 2 things I did really improved the ride considerably with out adding the big tires or body lifts. My brother in law has a '97 Wrangler which of course has coil springs and it does have a smoother ride than my '95. But I like mine better because it rides like a real jeep.
