Since my last entry on the 23rd Jan 2000. The car has been in again for 3 days and had the prop shaft bearings replaced.

General Comments:

In the first six months of ownership (purchased new by myself) the vehicle spent 32 days in the garage.

1998 Land Rover Freelander Xei 1.8 from Germany

Faults:

Knocking and squeeking from front left suspension.

Air vent tube from blower to window vent fell off onto my feet while driving!

Cooling fluid leaking into passenger compartment.

All occured at about 5000 Km.

General Comments:

After exchange of the complete shock absorber, suspension OK. LR service fixed the leaks. Now all seems OK.

1998 Land Rover Freelander 5 Door XEdi 2.0 turbo diesel from Portugal

Faults:

First 6 months of use, 10K Km, and the only thing to report is an annoying noise made by the left door window when it goes up.

And yes I've taken it off-road several times (at least one each weekend, and a lot of paint scratches) and its behavior is a lot better than a Honda CR-V or a Subaru Forester. And the wonders of the HDC are all true.

General Comments:

A wonderful car, a not so hard off roader (it's not a Defender of course) and a 2.0 TD Engine that could have a little more power and torque. Maybe another gear (6) for going up, cause to come down you have HDC.

Very easy to ride, and with lots of comfort in it. Ok Ok it's not a Mercedes, or a BMW but it's one of the most confortable cars from Land-Rover.

1998 Land Rover Freelander Xei 1.8 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Twice recalled, welds failing in rear suspension, dealer V. Poor and not really interested in my comments (I reckon I should know having re-built severaL old series 3s etc.)

Heater vibration.

Loud knock from rear suspension.

Exhaust heatshield fell off.

Etc.

Etc.

General Comments:

I thought they had sorted their quality control but this really is a long way off the pace. Not as bad as my 92 Discovery that had 2 gearboxes, 3 set of springs etc and all before 20k miles.

Was enticed back to LR by the Freelander but have got my fingers burnt again. I'm off to my local Mercedes dealership in search of proper build quality!!

The knocking noise from the rear is probably a bush connected to the rear dif' that breaks up.
