1991 Lexus Soarer Limited review from UK and Ireland
"Probably the best value car in the world"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Alternator blew and replaced after around 200K.
Couple of tires and brake pads changed at 50K intervals.
New heater fitted at 200K.
Blinking dash and cam belt are standard changes on or before 150K, and these were changed before I bought the car.
Air-con re-fill at 250K.
Front passenger courtesy handle is slightly loose.
Drivers side door console became very loose and faulty; this was replaced on 2nd service from when I bought the car.
General comments?
Definitely an amazing amount of car for the money.
Extremely powerful car, the 4.0 litre V8 is a monster.
The ride and comfort really are exceptional. The ride can be altered from rigid (sporty) to highly bouncy and forgiving (normal).
Soundproofing is sensational.
This car is so powerful and comfortable. I'd say it's one of the best vehicles for touring and driving a few hours at a time.
There are loads of gadgets on this car. It's hard to believe it's almost 18 years old!
The sound system is incredibly good (Nakamichi originally I think), and the touch-screen display really is ahead of it's time.
I have a friend who has the flashy job title of "Head of Automotive" for the Financial Times newspaper. He absolutely loves this car, and I think that says it all really.
