I'm from India too, I don't know how many chaps posted their negative comments about Mahindra has really seen a off road terrain.

To say the truth the fast developing economy of India today, has a long standing history of poor roads. The govt. (be it military or civil defense) used only Mahindra till we developed acceptable urban roads. However even today Mahindra jeeps are the most respected vehicle in the village side for its support to the world's largest populous nation.

All of you would have known the recent TATA NANO introduced in Indian Auto show is the major talk in Detroit Auto show, do you know what it means? Indian companies makes vehicle for the purpose it intend to be used not just for showing off. People in here value money and look for the return it gives let it be pleasure or safety.

I own a Mahindra Classic (CL340 DP 4WD), I bet no other jeeps could come near for the look as well as performance with the same Peugeot 2112cc Engine. Though the jeeps are not meant for highway driving (SPEED) but it is always a trust worth machine to travel any terrain.

My own experience.. One of the ceremonies of my cousin brother was done in one of the most remote places in India. Long dirt roads, river, rocks and what not. We took two Mahindra's and drove to the village. Except buckets and buckets of cleaning with water and soap and some water cooling everything was all fine. After a week, those two work horses brought us back to the city. It is not a Lexus but there is nothing that cannot be fixed with a hammer and a wrench.

We had Mahindra Chiefs and Braves for years, and loved them to pieces. Spares were a nightmare to find, but what fantastic off-road performance. They both tackled the Dorset hillsides with a style that left Landrovers blushing and Shoguns shuffling their wheels with embarrassment. A quick hose down and they were ready to pose with the best!

Alas, we drove them to death!

Want more. Please.

Hi there folks. Just got my hands on a Mahindra Stockman rag top; just out of registration, but can't wait to make it presentable for new rego here in West Australia. Has been left out in the open for over 12 months with top down but everything is still serviceable. Also own 2 L/Rover Discos, TDi and TD5 both of which go off-road; the TDi on Western Australian mine sites. Can't wait to compare the Mahindra with them. Happy motoring all.

Am going for a 1995 Mahindra mm540 which is packed somewhere, but all items still great. I have read all comments, I am Kenyan so I know the Kenya police story, but am going for the classic. Why, because it was built for certain needs with proper rational in it. Built for economy, bad roads and durability for that person who will not afford a car every other year and will not mind getting dirty or overloading the car but just wants to be sure to get there. The lack of highway performance means the owner is an organized person so whoever is expecting a Pajero or Range Rover comfort in a Mahindra is in the wrong car. Mahindra is a great workhorse. Will write more and probably paste pics.
