1989 Mazda 323 Interplay 1.5 litre petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

An excellent first car

Faults:

The biggest problem that I have found to be a problem is that the electric windows are extremely slow, though after 15 years it is quite expected.

The other thing is that the heater is not the quickest one to heat up in a hurry, making cold mornings a bit of a nightmare.

General Comments:

Take off: For an automatic it does have good pickup although it is a bit sluggish on changing gears.

Style: Although it is not the most stylish thing to hit the road, it does look good, and it sure does look better than some of the newer cars on the road.

Interior: The interrior is excellent. The Upholstery on the seats look brand new, although if they were black as apposed to Grey would have been better. The dashboard and door trimmings are excellent being in black because you can add a set of any color seat covers and it will look great.

Car Stereo: One word "crap". For some reason Mazda have decided to put two stereos in, one cassette deck, and one radio both having seperate volume controls. Also to add to the "crap" stereo is a pair of just as bad 4" speakers.Unfortunately Mazda decided cut the costs and not put speakers in the back.

Added Extras: Although Mazda is not applauded for having a decent stereo I will applaude them for putting a few cool features on such as: Factory alloys, spoiler, parking sensors as well as driving sensors, power steering, electric mirrors, electric windows as well as spot lights.

1989 Mazda 323 GLX 1.3 carb. from Netherlands

Summary:

Great (second hand) price/quality

Faults:

-The air tube connected to the tank was twisted so every liter that went in tried to gush out again. easy 1,70 euro repair.

-Rear suspension is a bit wobbly and sounds broken, but passed MOT in that state.???

-replaced cracked right rearview mirror.

-corroded electrical contacts.

-sometimes hard to get in 1st gear (especially when cold)

-rear window wiper motor broke.

General Comments:

This is a good looking car in it's class.

Compared to my previous car ('88 escort) it's much more luxerious; better seats and adjustment (back seats too!), adjustable steering wheel, adjustable dash lights, interior lights that stay on long enough to find ignition.

The interior finish is good, nice fabric (apart from the fake leather)

Minus is the distinct 80's dashboard and the fact that this model doesn't have an RPM clock.

Other minus is the automatic choke which doesn't seem to work properly.

1989 Mazda 323 SE 1.6 litre Multi-Port Fuel Injected from North America

Summary:

Reliable, fuel efficient, great car!

Faults:

This car was the most wonderful car I've owned, though in the end it went to a junk yard with a bad transmission. Other than that, I only replaced brakes, fluids, and one CV boot!

General Comments:

This car was fast for an automatic! It also had a lot of room under the hood (similar to a Geo Metro) making easy to work on. Its simplicity didn't give it the comfort that some cars have, but it was the simplicity that I loved - fewer things to go wrong! The car finally died because I would put it in neutral, rev it up, and then put it in gear to spin the tires. It's an automatic so my stupid actions put it in the junkyard at 160,000. I'm sure it would have gone at least another 15 or 20 thousand more...

-Reliable!

-Quick!

-35 miles per gallon!

-Great car!

I fully agree with an author and owner of this car. I own the same car, but 1992 and till now (May 05, 2005) I enjoy this car. It is very reliable, gas efficient and I would not sell this car if I didn't have to till the end of life for this car.
