1987 Mazda 929 luce royal classic 4dr hardtop 2.0 turbo from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Best bargain I ever brought at $800nz

Faults:

Drivers window never went when I brought the car, broken wire, common problem with this model.

Alternator brushes went at 220k, easy fixed.

Needs regular oil changes or lifters will start clacking, very common on this 18valve V6.

Front shocks are shot, 3rd set I have put on car now, but easy to replace, I'm not going to put electric suspension in the front next time, using standard HB Cosmo set (Luce is HC Vin code)

Clear coat paint peeled off the roof in a cold-cold winters frost this yr, 2002.

General Comments:

I totally love this car, wish I could take it with me back home to the states (AZ), but the steering wheels on the wrong side over there (smiles)

This car is so under rated!!!

Apart from the faults it has like front end etc no major problems, and I drive this car hard.

It still looks the part at 17yrs of age.

Had the car lowered 3", put 16" 5 star mags on it.

Its the royal classic so it came with all the options you could ever want from a car like twin air-con, fridge, power seats front and rear, heated seats, six speaker stereo which is still going strong, as I give it a good hammering (smiles)

Gas mileage is great for a car this size mid to late 20's to the gallon.

Did a repaint on the roof, looks like new again (clear coat only) not color, deep maroon.

Out of the 300 odd cars I have owned in my 23 yrs of driving this is right at the top of the list, Mazda did a really great job on this model.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I agree they are real sweet cars, but do you know how much power it has and performance figures for the 1/4 mile or 0-100km/h etc?

I did a 1/4 mile in the 1986 2L V6 turbo...

3 runs as follows..

20.05

19.50

17.56

An automatic gearbox would have struggled to do another run.

Best part was at the end; you and your mates just jump in and drive it home..

Had a couple of faults..

- Soggy shockies

- Starter motor, solenoid etc

- Electric windows not going down

All fairly easy to fix..

Very comfortable to drive on the open road.
