2003 Mazda B2500 DX 2.5 turbo diesel from Tunisia

Summary:

Basic, but reliable and strong workhorse

Faults:

Chassis and bodywork problems, starting with rust and vulnerability to corrosion, especially on the frame, rear cab supports, and cargo box.

As for the paint, the hood and front fenders tend to peel.

Lower ball joints and hub bearings wear out over time.

This particular diesel engine has difficulty starting, which is normal for a vehicle over 20 years old. This is due to air in the fuel system, faulty injection pump check valves, and worn glow plugs.

The only engine problem was due to the turbocharger rather than the engine itself. The turbocharger actuator tends to fail, causing a loss of power in the truck.

General Comments:

It's a pickup truck with basic, simple mechanics, but extremely reliable. I'm talking about the one I owned; maybe I was lucky, but the engine, even though it's not the fastest or most powerful, never gave me any problems except with the turbo. It's ideal for hauling things and using it outside the city; you can put mile after mile on it and the engine won't even notice.

The only thing that causes wear and tear over the years is not the engine but the internal components; the plastics are not of the best quality, as I said before, it is not galvanized so the sheet metal tends to rust frequently, that's why it's best not to leave it exposed to the sun for long periods, especially for those who live in places where the summer sun is very strong.

The model I had was one of the most basic, although it did include air conditioning, which works really well. Beyond that, there isn't much extra equipment. It's somewhat stiff to drive, although the power steering makes maneuvering and parking easier.

It's a vehicle focused on work, sacrificing interior comfort.

It's an excellent option for those looking for a durable, low-maintenance tool, provided it receives regular preventative maintenance. They're built to last as long as possible. I recently sold mine with everything in perfect working order despite having 250,000 kilometers on it.

2004 Mazda B2500 Barracuda 2.5 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Basic, slow pickup

Faults:

Leather seats, air con, ABS and lift kit.

Armrest is a bit flimsy

Nothing has gone wrong yet.

General Comments:

It's normally a farmer's vehicle, run into the ground, so to see a clean one is rare.

They do suffer badly underneath from rust on this model and the Ford Ranger.

2000 Mazda B2500 SX 2.5L from North America

Summary:

Acceptable

Faults:

The ABS light has come on, and the speedometer does not operate until you reach at least 40 MPH, and this is affecting a number of other systems. The odometer won't work until the speedometer works. The car doesn't compensate for deceleration between shifts, unless you reach at least 40 miles per hour, making shifting between gears 1-4 tougher to manage, due to rapid changes in engine speed.

The timing belt needed to be replaced at the time the car was purchased. And replacement aftermarket brakes (Duralast) have negatively affected brake performance on the vehicle.

General Comments:

The truck for the most part is reliable. The problems mentioned before could have been avoided or resolved if taken to a dealer, but the dealer wanted 3 times the cost that my mechanic quoted. Now I know why...

The truck doesn't handle bumps and cracks very well. The suspension is very sensitive, you feel everything. The car doesn't have AC, but the heat works well. Overall driving experience is reasonable, and I'm happy considering the low price for the vehicle.

1998 Mazda B2500 from North America

Summary:

Okay as long as not driven everyday

Faults:

A lot of things have went wrong with this truck since a few months after purchase.

This year alone we have had to replace 2 transmissions, brakes, tie rod, rotors, dist. cap, plugs, wires, 2 tires, and much more.

The truck is very noisy wind road noise and rides surpisingly rough.

Just the general things on the truck seem to be okay, except the center console.. it is starting to wear pretty badly.

General Comments:

* Truck has OKAY gas mileage

* Comfy seats for long dist. driving

* bright lights for illumination in bad weather

* bright console lights

* paint not fading and overall in very good condition

* doesn't do well (mechaniclly) when driving long distances

* not very good in bad weather (rain/snow)

* very very light (which is bad in wind)

* rides like a car

* bed too short.

Sounds like they sold you a car with 115000 miles, but it actually had 350000...

30th Jan 2010, 13:14

You mean they will actually go to 350,000?

350,000? Not a Ford that's for sure!

The truck will not last past 125,000. I'm an owner since 12 miles. Over $3,000 in repairs in the last 3 years. 1998 Mazda B-2500.
