1999 Mercury Cougar 2.0L 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Great car

Faults:

Washer on clutch cable needed to be replaced. Headlights and bumper trim are hard to find; needed due to an accident.

General Comments:

Car has been extremely reliable. My daughter has had 2 major accidents already and the car held up extremely well although some parts are hard to come by. Although the 4 cyl is not very peppy, it does fine. Styling is great and gas mileage is also great. I would recommend this car.

1999 Mercury Cougar V6 2.5 from North America

Summary:

Poorly built

Faults:

Check engine light. Had the codes repaired and guess what, the light is on again. Help.

General Comments:

I like my car, and it has been good to me for a long time. But when it breaks down, it is very difficult to diagnose and fix.

1999 Mercury Cougar 2.5 Liter from North America

Summary:

It's pretty, but not reliable enough

Faults:

After the remainder of the 6 month warranty expired, the moonroof stopped working (right before I ran it through the carwash). The battery has been replaced. The alternator replaced twice. The plug wires had an arching problem and have been replaced. Had an air intake problem that cost more than $700 before it was figured out. Can't keep tires on it. The fuses blow too easily; most recently with the windshield wipers. To make a long story short, I want my Hyundai back. Thank you.

That's pretty weird... I bought this car probably 7 months ago and I haven't had one thing go wrong with it... i love this car... its the most reliable thing I've drove... yeah I did the basic tune up with new spark plugs and wires and an oil change, but other than that it's a great care... and there was already 120,000 miles on it when I bought it and it still runs like its brand new...

1999 Mercury Cougar LX V6 from North America

Summary:

Piece of poop

Faults:

New transmission installed at 81,000 miles. *Warranty ended at 80,000miles* 2,000 dollars out of pocket.

Radio has not worked in about 5months.

Whines when I start it on cold mornings.

Both O2 sensors have been replaced. Around $150.

The flap in front windshield blows when defrost is on.

Check engine light, as well as low coolant light are on and no one can find the problem.

Paint around doors and on roof have faded.

When locking car with alarm, only 1 side flashes.

Cigarette lighter does not work.

Every fuse you could think of has been replaced.

Battery has been replaced.

Just today the sunroof will not close. It was opening up and down, but when I got home it won't close, the motor turns, but nothing happens.

General Comments:

If my car ran as well as it did the first 5-6months I had it, I'd love my car! BUT.. it doesn't.

If its not one thing, its another.

Right now, cougar is running OK.

Most frustrating at the moment is my sunroof issue.

And would absolutely NOT recommend a cougar to anyone.

1999 Mercury Cougar from North America

Faults:

My car would stall out while I was on the highway and I couldnt figure out why. I called the dealer and they said the fuel pump was recalled. My rpm doesn't work sticks at 65 miles an hour until I make a stop.I've had this problem for a few years. Tires wear fast. I had to change alternator and battery 2x. recently 89000 miles car would start and stall. Intake valve needed to be replaced taking in air. enginge light and fan light are constantly on. Car know feels like it wants to stall again when I'm waiting for a light.
