1999 Mercury Cougar 2.5 V6 from North America

Summary:

Very nice so far

Faults:

All the things wrong with my Cougar were wrong with it when I got it:

The hatchback door sticks.

There is no ashtray.

All 4 tires are different from each other.

The P/S mirror was broken, but my dealer had it fixed when they took it to get it inspected.

General Comments:

I wanted to get a car that was a little sporty, but not obnoxious. I get sick of seeing 3 out of 4 cars on the road. They are all SUV clones, minivans, or pickups. All the sedans are Hondas or Toyotas, which are reliable, but anemic.

My Cougar is comfortable, fun to drive, and looks good, and not everybody I see on the road has one.

Summary:

A troubled kat

Faults:

Major trouble with manual transmission.

General Comments:

Warranty from Ford is worthless, and will require at least $2,000.00 to set the car right.

1999 Mercury Cougar from North America

Summary:

Fun, attention getting and all in all a nice ride

Faults:

I have only had my car four months and after two and a half months my check engine light came on. Luckily I bought the extended warranty. Well worth it, trust me! I took it into the dealer.

My catalytic converter needed replaced (still under 80,000 mile factory warranty)

Also something on my air intake was messed up.

The extra ($80 each) key they cut and supposedly programmed only worked occasionally.

I took my car in on a Tuesday night and did not get it back until Friday night. Way to long to make those repairs. Not to mention when I picked up the car and went to pull out of the parking lot the light was back on!! I turned right back around and was furious. Another element of the air intake (some flaps) were not operating correctly. So they had to order the part and said I would not have to pay the deductible again (No Kidding!) and would let me know when it was in. I waited three weeks, luckily able to still drive it because it just losses performance. So I am taking it back in Saturday to finish the repairs over a month later!

General Comments:

I bought my car with many after market parts (exhaust, Enich rims, bra, red with white racing strips, other window decals) then I added my own (tint, CD player with amp and sub) so my car is tricked out.

I do wish I had a sun roof. I miss that from my old car.

The gas mileage sucks, but I think it is comfortable to ride in.

I wish my remote would beep when I arm the alarm so I know it worked.

Over all I get a ton of attention and it is speedy. I like it the best out of all the cars I have owned.

I never had to take my '98 civic in the shop the whole two years I had it so I am a little discouraged about this cars reliability.

I have a 2000 Cougar and I think it was a well waste of my dads money I have had nothing, but problems out of it it's a pretty car and nice to show off, but you can't depend on it. I can't wait till I get it paid off so I can get a car I can count on...

I have a '99 cougar and love it to death. I will literally drive this car until the wheels fall off. I have had similar problems with it: the converter and the gas mileage.. but still, I bought it brand new off the show room floor in '98, and I've only taken it to the shop 2 times.. so I think the car is great. Maybe you don't, but every car is different.
