1995 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Bostonian Edition review from North America
"This is the best car I have ever owned"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
About six months after I purchased the car, I could not start it on the first cold morning. It turned out that the previous owner never performed any standard maintenance besides oil changes. After replacing the spark plugs and ignition wires, everything was fine for the next three years.
The original battery was nine years old before I replaced it. I don't know that it really needed to be replaced, but I didn't want to take the chance that winter.
General comments?
This car doesn't have the kind of power that most people talk about, but that's probably because I have the V6 engine instead of the V8.
I love the way the car handles corners. I'm amazed at how comfortable the car is. I'm slightly shocked that all the power equipment (windows, locks, seats, antenna, etc) still works just as well as the day I bought it. I love the look of the car, and I think Ford made a mistake when they redesigned and then discontinued it.
I like this car so much, I plan to replace the engine when the time comes rather than buy another car.
