I have a 1999 eclipse. The only problem I have had with it is that both of the door handles broke off in my hand. For a couple of days I had to crawl through the truck. I could not afford a $70.00 a piece door handle!

LEAK, LEAK, LEAK, this is an absolute nightmare car. I was just about to give up until I heard about this Scotch Guard. I am willing to try anything right about now. The only problem is, Where exactly do I put the Scotch Guard? (on the rubber weatherstripping?)

Help! I am a newbie with a 97 Spyder. After reading all the comments, am a little nervous as spring is just around the corner and get plenty of May showers. Thanks for the tips on weatherstripping and Scotchgard. I will keep those in my trunk and wait for the first rain storm to see if I got lucky with this one. So for the question, on 97 Spyder, does the top suppose to go all the way behind the rear seat, or should it basically stay around the same height as the back seat? Is this car suppose to have a boot to cover the top? I have noticed when I wash this car there is water behind the rear seat. Guess I need someone in the car to see where it might be leaking when I am washing it. So, any comments about the top or better yet, if anyone has close-up pictures of the top in it's open position so I can see how it is suppose to fit. I am in a small town with the only Mitsubishi around so I cannot go look at anyone's to see. Thanks.

I read all your comments regarding the top leaking on a Mitsubishi Spyder. My top also leaks when it rains hard. The dealer said that I need weathersstripping all the way around which would cost $600 and some change. My question is where do you spray the Scotchgard? On the top or on the old weatherstripping? Also, did you say that you just need to go to Home Depot and get some weatherstripping and it will work just the same? And do you think that it was that easy to put on? I have a 99 Eclipse Spyder.

I have a 98 eclipse and have had these problems.

The passengers door handle broke off. The rear hatch and gas cap cover will not open without someone pulling on them while I pull on the latch. Windows rattle if rolled down, Passengers seat doesn't lock into place right. Right signal lights go extremely fast most of the time. Check engine light stays on. I know I have left out some things that are wrong because theres plenty of them.

I love the car and the looks I have lowered it and added neons and much more, but these cars should have more recalls.

I've had my 99 GST Convertible for about 6months now... It has the same problems as most of you guys. It leaks a little bit when rain is heavy. Also my convertible top arm bent so I had to buy a new one, found a aftermarket one online... besides that the car is fine. Drives and looks great. Hope I can keep it for along time.

I have a 97 Eclipse Spyder GS-T that I got a little over a month ago. I bought the car with a broken passenger side door handle, but was given a door handle by the previous owner the following week. I had a couple people help me put it on which took a couple hours and a lot of frustration. The speakers started to blow shortly after I got it which most do around 100k miles, and I planned on getting new ones anyway. I also started to notice a popping sound when I stop or go or take sharp turns... could this be from the ball joint that I saw was recalled? Windows rattle when down, and I have a couple dents on the passenger side. And lastly, my top leaks in the rain a little on each corner where the top meets the windshield, and really bad on the back-glass. But don't get me wrong, I love the car. It gets me from A to B with style.

Your first problem is going with the GS. RS and GS engines are completely different from their much faster and better looking brothers the GS-T and GS-X. I have owned 2 GS-t's one a 98 and my current a 99. NO PROBLEMS unless you drive the life out of them constantly, then yeah it's expected. Drive your car like you had to pay for it with your own cash and not daddy's. Then you'll respect it and drive it hard when needed ;)

Hi, my name is Fernando and I need to know what I need to do to make my 98 Eclipse GS faster? I just need more acceleration. I do not want to put a turbo or nitro in it.

I own a 99 eclipse gs and these are my questions. (1) What are your recommendations for fixing the window rattle in the door. (2) Has anyone seen a noticeable improvement in performance with the installation of sway bars? (3) Does anyone have problems with belt noise when it's cold? and if so, any good fixes for that.. preferably something permanent and (4) Is anyone having problems with lots of movement in the steering wheel when braking? I don't think I've ever experienced smooth braking in this car. The brakes are slotted performance breaks with semi metallic pads so any ideas on what I could do about this problem as well? Well thanks for taking a look at this and giving me your feedback. Email me: turnitout2k@yahoo.com.

I have a 99 GS Spyder, 55,000 miles. The top does not leak, I've owned a 97 GST Spyder, it leaked, a 99 GS Spyder auto, it leaked, and this 99 GS 5 speed doesn't leak, it's great, 1 out of 3.

I am looking to buy a 1999 Spyder, and the dealer put the top down and all the windows went down at the same time... is this normal for these cars??

Also then when he put the top back up, the drivers side window went up, BUT the other three windows will not work. He looked at the fuse he said, but tells me he will discount car a bit and says it may be a switch in the driver's side door panel; any ideas of the fix or trouble shooting... it does look like the console on drivers side was not attached very well; there is an after market radio in it. Thanks for any help. It's going for $2000 now, which still seems like a good deal?

Thanks.

Hi.

I read your comment and I wanted to know if you also put weather stripping around the sides on the top where the top meets the windows? I live in Chicago so it rains like nobody's business. I just wanted a quick fix.

Please email me your ideas.

I just bought a 2002 Mitsubishi Spyder GT Convertible. I absolutely LOVE the car, but as in all the previous comments I have read, I have the leaking problem. I contacted Mitsubishi and was told the weatherstripping is discontinued and they can't help me... I was wondering if anyone here has any ideas of how I can fix this problem... Thank you in advance.

Please email me with any suggestions. All will be appreciated.
