1991 Mitsubishi Express SJ 2.0L carburettor from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

An exceptional performer

Faults:

Original engine written off when it blew a valve through a piston at 420,000km.

Otherwise only routine wear & tear - timing belts almost exactly every 100,000km, clutch plates approx. every 180,000km.

General Comments:

This vehicle worked VERY hard in city and highway driving, and proved itself to be a truly exceptional car for reliability and longevity.

This vehicle received regular servicing by me to keep everything in good working order - and the result was phenomenal performance.

Apart from unavoidable issues with commercial box van-style vehicles (cabin space, seat comfort, fuel efficiency etc.) I cannot fault this vehicle.

Tyres and brakes showed excellent wear & tear - average tyre replacements every 60,000km+, front brake pads lasted approx. 350,000km per set, rear brake drum shoes were ORIGINAL at 473,000km and wear and tear was amazing under sensible driving techniques.

This vehicle was a joy to drive on the highway - and usually was doing so with a VERY full load.

1995 Mitsubishi Express SJ 2.4 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Absolute crap

Faults:

Well where do I start. I will just list them to make it easier, otherwise we will be here for ever: -

- Gearbox reconditioned.

- Inhibitor switch replaced.

- Complete exhaust system replaced.

- New calipers, rotors, and discs.

- Ignition system replaced.

- Battery died & replaced.

This all in 6 months..

Has broken down numerous times, which resulted in expensive towing bills.

Total amount spent on repairs $6500 AUD.

Total purchase price of car $4000 AUD.

:(

I am sick of it, so I am purchasing either a Mercedes Vito, or Toyota Hiace.

General Comments:

It goes pretty hard, because of the performance exhaust.

Pretty comfy seats. Radio and air con does not work.

Your commenting on an 8 year old vehicle with 160,000 km on it. The repairs sound reasonable to me.

Sounds reasonable to you?? !!

Y' don't want to buy a cheap coathanger-shaped bridge, do you (small notes, no consecutive numbers)?
