1995 Mitsubishi FTO GPX 2.0 V6 MIVEC from UK and Ireland

A mighty head turner!

General Comments:

The car is a real head-turner.

In standard form the car is very attractive, but mine has had a few modifications:

- "Bozz Speed" rear spoiler

- 17" AVS Model-5 alloys

- Twin stainless steel exhausts

- HKS induction kit

- Clear side repeaters

- Blue dials / aluminium dial rings

- Double DIN Kenwood hi-fi

I would definitely recommend buying a FTO.

1995 Mitsubishi FTO GS 1.8 from UK and Ireland

If you see one for sale buy it!

Central locking motor burnt out (Common Problem)

Window rattles when down (Common Fault)

General Comments:

This car isn't as powerful as the GPX or Gr models, but it is only the engine that differs.

The car has stunning looks and handling and must be a contender for the best front wheel drive sports coupe.

Standard wheels are horrible (usual Japanese sports car) but fit a set of 17 or 18 inch alloys and you have a beautiful car.

1995 Mitsubishi FTO GR 2.0 V6 from UK and Ireland

Gorgeous. Why were they not introduced in Britain by Mitsubishi?

The only fault I have had is the ignition key could not be removed. The garage sent a mechanic out at 7pm (one hour after I had reported the fault) and removed a locking pin that apparently locks the key. It seems to be quite a common fault, or so I am told. It only took the mechanic thirty minutes to complete and this was on my driveway.

General Comments:

The car has gorgeous looks from the front, but is either love it or hate it as far as the rear view is concerned.

The interior ergonomics are excellent with everything coming easily to hand.

The seats are very supportive with a good, sensible choice of adjustments. This is very useful as I am over six feet tall.

There are some very quirky but enjoyable gadgets such as "FTO" lit up in blue on the door sills, the beeper when you are reversing and the automatic collapsing door mirrors when space is tight.

My FTO has 17 inch diameter wheels fitted with very low profile tyres. These fill the arches out much better than the standard ones that look too narrow for the car. The ride is harsher, but the handling is excellent with superb feedback from the road.

The previous owner has fitted a Japanese racing air filter that looks similar to the British K&N type product.

I am not sure how much power this gives, but the intake roar is something else.

The tiptronic gearbox is excellent and is well worth considering if you are looking at buying a FTO. It is very slick and gives good control when driving.

I heard that the FTO needs under sealing to prevent corrosion. I have inspected mine and it looks well protected underneath. I have been told that it will only cost me 30 British pounds to get the car under sealed so I will get this done anyway as a precaution.

I have just recently had my FTO under sealed and it was £130.00 so either I've been stung or your quote is way off. The under sealing I have had done is superb an very thorough.

You have not been stung.

The reviewer quote @ £30 is exceptionally optimistic. To do a thorough under-seal takes around 3 to 4 hours. You have to mask off suspension parts, brake bits as well as other areas that you don't want under-seal to adhere to.

If you can get a few hours of a trained mechanics labour, + materials for £30 - please let me know!!

1995 Mitsubishi FTO GPX 2.0 petrol Mivec from Australia and New Zealand

A real head turning performer

Exhaust rattle (aftermarket Ralliart model).

Rattle in the driver's side window when fully open.

Problems with the starter motor. Random failure to start on first key-turn.

General Comments:

A real head turner.

Replaced the standard 16" wheels with a set of 18" ALT. Wheel arches are far too big for the standard set.

Seriously quick if the revs are kept above 5000rpm (around where the mivec kicks in).

Sounds great with the Ralliart exhaust.

Handling is superb. Almost as good as an Integra Type-R, but easier to live with.

Cabin a bit dull, showing its age after 6 years on the market.

Still a great looker.

Worthy bargain if willing to deal with the wait for imported parts (up to 6 weeks from Japan)!

I found with my immobilizer that the flashing light took a while to go off, and it won't start until it does.
