My Galant was under a recall for bad wiring. That shows why it is VERY important to take your car into the shop as soon as a safety recall is issued.

I'm not doing this in mean spirit, but most people who buy Galants are very happy with them. I rented one once and it was one of the nicest cars I've ever been in. And for a ownership reference I know someone who has an older one and he has never had a significant problem with it.

I just received a letter concerning a recall on my 1996 Mitsubishi Galant and I made a phone call to the 800 number. I do a lot of travelling for work and in order to fix the recall problem, I would be left without a car for a week. I called and asked if there was anything the company could do as far as renting me a car, and they said no. I also asked if I was guaranteed my car would be OK to drive until the dealership could fix it (which was a week!) and the supervisor said no, so I proceeded to ask her why I should be stuck either having no car or driving a potentially life threatening vehicle. The woman then said call us when you get into an accident and we can discuss your options. I will never buy or give my business to this company ever again.

I owned a 1999 Galant. I had problems from the time I bought it until I traded it in and got a 01 Nissan Maxima.

I had problems with the brakes, electrical wiring, steering wheel vibrations, battery, etc. Whenever I took it to the dealer they never found nothing wrong. My car only had 23,000 on it. I have friends and people I know of that have a Galant (no matter what year) and they too have the same problems. I feel sorry for all Galant owners, the car is a piece of CRAP!

ES - 1994

More power than I expected from a four cylinder. My husband thinks the seat is hard on the back on a longer drive (he is six foot). Am considering purchasing another; however, I'm starting to notice a small amount of stuttering in the transmission (at 49K miles) am wondering if others have had this problem.

I own a 1992 Galant. I purchased it in 1995 with 66k. I now have 202km. The car is a sherman tank. It has never failed once in the last 7 years... need I say more. To all the Honda and Toyota afficinados... this car is just as good if not better. It is my second Mitsubishi product. I owned a Colt for 9 years and I reaped the same outstanding service.

I have a 99 Galant V6 that runs like a dream. Prior to that I had 93 Eagle Talon (mitsubishi) with 190,000 miles on it. Prior to that I had a 1985 Mitsubishi Mighty Max pickup that I put over 200,000 miles on. Since 1985 I have bought 4 timing belts, a few brake rotors, and hundreds of quarts of oil. All cars have potential engineering problems which could result in some sort of tragedy, but oh well. It is just the way it is. I don't think it is fair to say that all mitsubishi cars are this or that.. I personally have had 17 years worth of virtually trouble free service and look forward to spending a few of them in a Diamante as well.

My wife and I have a 99 Galant ES. We have 39K miles on the car and have gone through 3 pairs of rotors. There is a serious defect with the 99 Galant and consistent brake problems. The steering wheel vibrates, and so does the brake pedal when applying the brakes. Mitsubishi knows this is a safety related issue because the problem was fixed in 2002. We currently have legal recourse under Lemon Law. If you have the same year car and are experiencing the same problems, I suggest you get a lawyer. If you live in NJ, contact Kimmel and Silverman. They currently have a class action lawsuit against Mitsubishi with 1999 Galant brake problems.

I have a 99 Galant GTZ. The car was fine the day I test drove it. The car was fine a few months after I purchased it. Soon after the first oil change I noticed a change in fuel economy, horsepower, suspension, and braking. So, I had all these things checked by the dealer. I was back on the road with what I thought was a $24,000 bargain. Little did I know that after a day of shopping I would not be able to start my car to go home. Needless to say I payed $75 for a tow ride home. The dealer said it was just my battery that was just a year old. After my instrument panel in the dash stopped illuminating I sold my car to some poor college student for $7000 what a steal huh, not really. Please fix your defects Mitsubishi.

I own a 1999 Mitsubishi Galant ES, I have HORRIBLE brake problems. As stated before with other owners; my steering wheel vibrates, my rotors are always being worked on and I cannot tell you how many brake pads I have replaced! I have had no help from my dealership, they say that there is never anything wrong.

I am very displeased with this car and I would never buy another car from them due to the lack of support from this company.

I have 99 Galant V6. I like the car so far, but also have problems that start to piss me off. battery died in one day for no reason. brakes pulsate and squeak, steering wheels vibrate. tires also wore off in 30k. does anyone know what to do with brakes, because seems like it's a common problem... get a lawyer? I live in mass.

I owned A 1999 Galant, It is a nice looking machine, but a very poorly made and at times a dangerous car!!! I bought the car brand new. At 5k miles. the brakes went bad and I replaced the shoes. At 8K miles. they were making noise again. My wife could not stop the car soon after that and hit another car, no serious damage Thank GOD, but could have been worst. At 10000 miles. I would come to a stop and it felt as though someone hit me from behind, come to find out the tranny was bad. The battery failed twice because the headlights stay on when you turn the car off (RECALL). Then I read a report that Mitsubishi had been deceiving it's customers for 20 years about the integrity of there cars. You figure it out!!!

1997 Mitsubishi Galant Brake/Rotor Problems...

I bought this car 2 years ago and everything was great. The owner traded this in on a brand new Galant which appeared to be a good car, right??? Buy one just like it, but newer? Everyone I asked about the Galants, they all had great things to say.

I bought this car and 5k miles, my whole front end shakes, rattles, and feels like a wash machine on spin cycle.

I replaced the brakes and rotors and the problem stopped. I got on the net and found out that this was a design defect. So I called Mitsubishi and they said that installing aftermarket rotors and brakes would fix the problem because they heat up too much for the stock ones.

OK, 10k miles later, it happened again. I installed a "high-performance" set of rotors and a higher grade brake pads. I got the same problem about 15k miles later.

I am soo MAD! I like the way this car looks, drives, and handles... (After installing new rotors and pads.)

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE BUYING A GALANT!
