Engine is ticking.
It is not due to needing an oil change or lack of oil.
Transmission slipping from 2nd to 3rd gear sometimes.
Has anyone else had these problems?
I would appreciate some feed back before I take this to the dealer.
I have a 1999 Galant ES.
My engine ticks as well, I figured it was because of the 3600 watt sub system I have in it, But I've heard about 4 difrent things of what it can be, but haven't had the time to actually pay and take it in...
My tranny for the most part is good, But I seem to sometimes experience the slipping sensation that you mention, Seems sometimes it shifts on its own when you are just grandpa footin it, Put the peddle to the floor tho, and boy she goes for a 4 banger seems to hook up fine when you really put your foot in her This just me?
I have a 1998 Galant that ticks as well. She also kicks hard going into 2. If I play with the gas a bit it shifts smooth.
This "tick" you all speak of is known as lifter tick... your valves are not lifting smoothly.. most likely telling you to change your oil and filters.
The "tick", as a previous reader pointed out is probably the hydraulic lifters. This is a common problem in galants. Has affected mine for a couple of years. A few mechanics have checked it and advised not to fix it (cost about €20 plus labour for each of the 24 valves), but just turn up the radio! Change oil every 4k miles should dampen it enough.
I have a 98 Mitsubishi Galant ES. It always makes a kick when I hit the gas too. Does that mean there's a problem with the transmission, or the engine?
