1998 Mitsubishi Lancer GLi Coupe 1.5 petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Two words - Bullet Proof

Faults:

Only minor issues.

General Comments:

The most reliable car I've ever owned! Never once gave me any dramas, but in saying that, I do look after my cars (regularly service it and oil changes at 5,000km/3 months).

Pro -- Excellent on fuel, parts are easy to find and affordable, so easy to work on, very reliable, easy to drive, looks quite sporty for a 1.5L car.

Cons -- Not very comfortable, NOT MANY safety features, poor sound proofing for road noise.

Perfect for someone with a limited budget, a 1st car owner who wants something to get around town in (also consider a Mirage, which is an identical car in a hatchback).

1998 Mitsubishi Lancer GLi CE 1.5 four-cylinder 91 RON from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Indestructible little tank

Faults:

Starter motor wore out slowly between 190,000km and 210,000km.

General Comments:

Never had any fluids changed or topped up, except oil, which has been filled twice since new.

Been serviced twice by a mobile mechanic.

Starter motor worked fine first time, but needed to cool off before it could restart later, so we got a new one.

Absolutely no other mechanical problems.

This car has been caned, if it had a tacho, it'd be stuck in the top half of revs permanently.

The engine is dead gutless at low rev's, but goes alright at high rev's and is very willing to go hard.

Suspension is terrible; it's horribly soft and the car wallows around worse than anything I've ever driven. It ruins the handling too.

Cabin plastics and seats are disgustingly cheap, as bad as korean alternatives for Japanese price.

1998 Mitsubishi Lancer LS 1.3 from Greece

Summary:

A sporty sedan with no power

Faults:

No problems with this car.

General Comments:

After 3 years driving this car, I must admit that it goes like new. If you are thinking of buying a roomy reliable saloon car, then I suggest the Lancer Mitsubishi.

Although it might be frustrating on long travel distances do to its lack of power and sort transmission, it has a frame that even class above cars would envy. The transmission and weight balance on this car is overwhelming for the performance it has, when approaching a corner your confidence raises and the grip from the car is incredible. Brakes do wear off quite fast and the suspension is way too stiff for rough roads.

The cabin is very big and fits with ease large people. Trunk space is just perfect, it is just great.

Must warn that I bought it with no ABS, which drove me to a big crash. 3 people were in the car and we got out of it with not even a scratch.

Night lights take a lot of power from the engine, and with the radio on, it is an annoying drive.

1998 Mitsubishi Lancer GLI 1.5 litre from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Cheap and well groomed

Faults:

I had to replace the gear box, which was very expensive, but not unaffordable.

The front headlight has been moved by the bumper.

The front grille snapped costing $100, fairly expensive.

General Comments:

Cool car, looks really great after it has been done up a bit eg. exhaust tip, chrome rims, fine all round.

Handles like a champion, sticks to the road.

This car is worth your money. Plus it only cost me $17,000 at the time.

1998 Mitsubishi Lancer MR 1.8 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

A car worth it's money

Faults:

The steering rack had to be replaced.

Front tires had to be replaced.

General Comments:

This is a great little car with plenty of power despite being a small engine.

The acceleration is awesome and it grips to the road like it has claws!

The room in the back is fairly good for a coupe, but it would be uncomfortable on a long trip.

It puts out about 110hp with no modifications in terms of performance.

I have put on a new gear shifter, pedals and a muffler which makes the car sound great!

Great for anyone who can get there hands on it, we paid $10,000 and it is worth every cent.

Any teenager that wants a good reliable car that is comfortable and has a lot of power this is the car for you!
