1992 Mitsubishi Pajero 2.5 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Great 4x4, a little thirsty, very reliable

Faults:

Rocker gasket started to leak oil at 242,500. Looked like it was the original gasket from when the Pajero was made, as it was rock hard.

Still leaves a small oil patch now and then. Leak can't be found to date, don't count this as major problem.

General Comments:

This is a great 4x4 overall.

Handling is great, except in 2wd it's a little tail happy if you accelerate a little hard coming out of a bend or roundabout in icy or wet conditions.

Interior is well laid out and very ordinary.

Could be better on mpg.

Would buy another 2.5 TD any day.

1992 Mitsubishi Pajero 3.5L from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

I love the heated seats; they're good for my back

Faults:

My Pajero started missing when approaching 80k, so I got it serviced, and a month and a half later, hello it's back. The service cost $600.

I spoke to my wife who took it in for me to be serviced, she said "oh yeah, that's right, the mechanic said the sparklers need swapping!, changing or was it replacing? Hmm? something like that, I said to the mechanic, don't worry about it".

My reply was something like "ARE YOU FOR @#%$EN REAL?" My wife took my wallet from my pocket, took out my credit card, a peck on the cheek and spent $500 on crap I don't need, $300 on herself, and a 4 Litre pack of oil for me. I got used to sleeping in that spare room.

General Comments:

Can someone please help? My truck ran well when it ran well.

Thank for the insight, right here in Tanzania Mitsubishi Pajero is not rated as one of the serious 4x4 as the Toyota Land cruisers, Nissan and the Land rovers, however I have just imported mine at 54,000 kms. I pray that it gets me through to 100,000 kms plus or else the Mitsubishi Pajero goodwill is yet to suffer another blow.

I wish I know how it cracks the motor or block... was it an over used? mishandling or it just broke down like that? They look great in the interior, but they are noisy too. The smoke they normally emit irks me!

I guess I better start saving for yet another SUV in case it breaks just too soon. Adios!

Hi, 5 years after you posted this and I am also in Tanzania, considering buying a 3-door 1992 Pajero. Would you do it again?

1992 Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed 2.4 turbo diesel from Guyana

Summary:

Royalty

Faults:

Nothing really. We had some mechanics overhaul the engine, it is not working at the moment. The parts are expensive, we could have bought another vehicle with the money. Worth the money though.

General Comments:

It is the most comfortable vehicle we have ever had. The power is astonishing, the torque to be exact. It is not a real speed demon.

1992 Mitsubishi Pajero 2.5 turbo diesel from Philippines

Summary:

A reliable off-roader

Faults:

Air conditioning has always been a problem. Not that it breaks down a lot, but it just fails to cool down the cabin especially on hot sunny days.

General Comments:

This vehicle is a true workhorse. Rock-solid in construction and very, very reliable. I haven't had any major problems with my Pajero.

However, it lacks power to cruise the highway.

My 1992 Pajero has the same problem on the airconditioner. I'd appreciate it very much if somebody can give me a good solution to remedy this problem.

I had the same problem with my pajero. I found the problem was the fan seen from the outside of the grille which cools down the air-con radiator. The fan motor was full of carbon deposits, cleaned out the motor and it worked perfectly. So air was lovely and cold all the time. hope this helps with peoples problems,It did it for me.
