"It's a sleeper, no one knows its limits"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I am 19 so I drive decently hard.

I have had to replace the clutch, fuel injector, brakeline, rear brakes, gas tank, windshield, spark plug wires and the exhaust.

There are self modifications for extra HP.

General comments?

This is a GREAT car, although I have replaced a lot on it, they were all original parts from 87.

Performance is great, the engine runs like a top and when I pound it to the road it keeps coming back for more. It doesnt even shake when it's up over 200km/h.

I also have a original 1987 200SX, an automatic 2.0L coupe, which has seen 11 winters and still has the original paint, engine and transmission. I am closing in on 302,000kms on my original motor. Like you, this is a keeper, and I still have fun driving it, just like the first day I bought it.

What a great car, each time I take it for a spin, I can't help but open it up a lot on the road, it still has the power.

I think my car will go a lot further as long as I continue to carry out regular maintenance. Good to see your comments, have fun, Nissan sure doesn't make them like they used to... now all plastic and rubber, and overpriced.

My only problem right now is finding new coil springs for the suspension, but I'll keep looking. Take care and happy motoring!

I am 16, and just purchased a 1987 200sx se for my first car. It is in beautiful condition, no rust or anything. It was an Arizona car, and I know the previous owner so I know it has been treated well. Anyway, I was curious if anyone knew where I could find any after market products for this car. I have searched, but I cannot find anything for it because it is pre-90's. Anything universal even would be a great help. you can e-mail me at

BigyBe@aol.com thanks.

Hello 200SX owner.

I have a 1987 200SX-XE Hatchback and love it since the day I bought it. It still has its original paint job (Midnight Black). It treated me well for over 13 years, now it's my time to treat her well by replacing the old engine with a new one.

Major problems after I had an oil change (time to discuss with the company) two weeks ago. Nonetheless, my 200 is fun to drive and it keep asking for more once I open the throttle. Actually, I had it running side by side with the new 200SX (US Model). Still love to play and keep asking for more. Enjoy riding the 200SX. Japanese manufacturers did it again.

In my 14 years of owning my 1987 200SX there have been no major repairs. The interior has held up great for its age, and the exterior still has the original paint.

My car has never been in the shop, never been in an accident, or repainted. It has weathered 11 winters and right now, gives me 32 MPG on the highway.

Can you believe I still have the original electrical/electronic parts, I haven't replaced them yet? Nissan didn't spare any smarts when they designed and built this model. In the years I've had it, I have added a few accessories to it such as front spoiler/rear spoiler/custom stereo and custom wheels which have enhanced an already classic body style.

I plan on keeping this car, it's still fun to drive and looks better that some of the newer imports on the road today.

Having just purchased my 1987 Nissan 200SX barely a month ago, what a pleasure to read all these favorable postings about this car. I didn't plan to buy the car until my beloved 86 Honda blew up and I needed a cheap replacement -- quick. My mechanic offered it to me at less than wholesale price so I grabbed it.

It's definitely short on headroom for me (a six footer), so much so I can't close the inside sunroof cover. But damn it's fun to drive with the windows down and the sunroof open! Mine has gone 201,000 kilometres (about 120,000 miles), has had some pretty amateurish body/paint work in spots, but looks sharp overall. Equipped with a 2.0L non-turbo and automatic transmission, this thing's loaded: power windows, mirrors, locks, sunroof, A/C, cruise control, good-sounding 100W factory stereo. And it all works!

I've never cared for the pop-up style headlights mainly because of all the "one-eyed" versions of these cars we see on the road, but mine work fine. Fingers crossed.

And even with the auto, air and options, power is more than adequate in town and on the highway. 26-30 mpg in town; 32-34 on the highway. Solid on the road feel. Strong, sure brakes. Seemingly good record for dependability. I love it so much, I'm going to live with the headroom problem for as long as this car cares to run!

I too have the 200sx 2.0l non turbo, and I love it, never gives me any trouble, the only thing it's ever needed is an alternator and a CD player, it easily goes 185km and handles like a dream, I'll never ever get rid of it.

Yeah I am 16 and I as well have a 1988 200sx SE

This car is one of the most fun cars I have ever driven

it handles so well and runs awesome.

I have 204000 miles on it and the only thing wrong with it is a sticky exhaust valve and that goes away after the car warms up I would definatly buy another one if I had the chance or the cash best $900 I ever spent.

I have a 86 and a 87 Nissan 200sx. I payed 450 dollars for my 86 on my 17th birthday. It has a 1.8 liter turbo and goes like snot! The only problem that I've found with this car is that parts are extremely difficult to find. So, I just recently purchased an 87 2.0 liter non-turbo which I've paid 1000 dollars for. However, I did have to put some work into it. Breaks, and a CD player was all that it really needed though. The body on this car is mint. These cars handle great at all times with high buck$ tires, if you don't have good tires though, you might expect some problems in the rain. It is ideal for in town driving and race tracks. I love these cars so much, that if I could buy more of them I would. Value, speed and reliability -- these cars have it all.. both cars had over 150,000km when I got them. The bottom line is that this is the very best car that you could ever buy.

Hey I'm 17 and I bought a 1988 200sx for $400. There is only rust on the FRONT FENDER. I was wondering where I could buy one for cheap? If anyone has any ideas, let me know..

My 1987 Nissan 200sx runs like a dream. I have almost 200,000 miles on it and I love it. I have had no major problems on it. I only had to replace a clutch and a back window. All in all it's a great car. Dan.

I am 19 and I got a 1987 Nissan 200sx se around August of last year. It truly does drive like a dream. But, I have been looking for some after market parts and of course, I haven't found any. So... Does anyone know where I can get headers for the vg30? Maybe a twin turbo application? And I need to find some coil overs.

If anyone can help, just send me an e-mail at wapa4@yahoo.com.
