"A sporty yet refined ride for an individual or couple"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The tires wear unevenly due to the obvious flaws in the camber, but what do you expect for such great handling? Before my car was drivable, I had to replace all four tires.

The carpet on the inside has also worn a great deal, but that can be expected with the amount of time I spend in the car.

General comments?

For as long as I have owned this car, I have been completely satisfied with every aspect of it. Nothing has broken or malfunctioned, and with regular scheduled maintenance, I expect to keep it running for another 100,000 miles.

The handling is exceptional, especially with the Toyo tires I have on now. The one modification I am planning on doing is to add a lowering kit.

My stock stereo and speakers still work, but I am also going to replace them due to the fact that my car is almost 8 years old now.

This car gets superb gas mileage on the highway (31-32 mpg) and decent city mileage. It has quite a bit of get-up-and-go when needed, however, as always, an automatic transmission in a sports car is unsettling.

All in all, the interior is very comfortable and cozy. The trunk leaves something to be desired, but since the back seat folds down for extra storage, I find that I can haul just about anything I need.

With my driving habits and the amount of miles I put on this car monthly, I am very surprised that nothing has gone wrong yet, but it's true. Not one thing has broken at 126,500 miles and I'm still going strong with all original parts and engine.

That's nice that you say that you haven't had any problems. I have been puzzled by all the good reviews I have read on this car. I have a '95 SE manual with ABS/VLSD and leather which I bought used in '97 with 38,900 miles on it. It now has 77,000 miles on it. I have had both minor and major problems with it which I have been trying to figure out if some of these are inherent in this particular model or not. When I first got it it had a bad wheel bearing. Then 2 minor oil leaks before 50,000miles. After that steering rack seals that went bad which I had to spend $600 on a rebuilt steering rack which I think is going out again just 3yrs later. Replaced thermostat 2yrs ago. In the last yr: starter, 3 months later engine had to be decarbed then right after that I started getting low gas mileage at 19mpg so the 02 Sensor was replaced which didn't cure the problem, valve cover gasket and gromets at the same time replaced at the same time. My steering seems to be messed up again. It is clanking when I turn the wheel or go over bumps. The ends of the tie rods are shot, though, its probably something more major like the rack or U-joints going out. Parts are expensive for this car.

Maybe you should have written a review of your own rather than making a huge comment that had nothing to do with the review.

True...Anyways, I am 18 years old and am planning on looking into 240's. I am seeking one which is pretty quick, yet not too expensive. I am wondering which model will fit my needs? IF any other suggestions as to what other makes I should look into, please inform me.

Hmm, well here's the 411 with 240sx's - the overall top speed with them is lousy. The governor hits about 110-120ish mph (not sure exactly what the exact number is, but its around that I think. So obviously it won't be hitting any break neck speeds, but that's not what this car is for(unless you want to cut the rev limiter, which is illegal i believe but its the yellow with green stripes along it under the dash i believe). This thing is made for corners and acceleration. Its running the cast iron ka24de block engine which has lots of lower end torque from the get go (which is honestly all you need if your only gonna be racing in the city). Word of warning though: do not turbocharge the ka, I found it a bad mistake and I'm already on my 15th ka in my 96 240sx LE. The cast iron block isn't strong enough to handle any realy forced induction system. Then again I'm pushing it up to 20 psi tuned every time and I dyno regularly so that's my fault on my part.

I'd suggest if you wanted to get serious about starting to get some major horse into a 240 with an sr20 swap. Yes, I know its what everybody does with 240sx's now, but its the best option. Everything matches up pretty almost. From there the possibilities are endless, you literally have a jdm bulletproof engine. Just remember to upgrade the chassis, suspension accordingly to handle the sr20 if you start maxing out the power in it.

Now lastly, if you really want to show up a lot of people and go the ultra expensive route here is to switch out the ka and either put in the rb20,25, or 26. Either one of those engines are all jdm and are proven time and time again to be great functioning engines when you start maxing out psi and swapping in new turbo's. This may be the best way to save money in the overall end, but its the most expensive to go with honestly.

In my opinion though for you, your only 18 so I'd start out with something small really. If you really wanted a 240sx then get an LE manual and then just put in a air intake, replace piston heads, rings, new spark plugs, air filter, catback exhaust. Really just little stuff for the time being and you'll find that'll be already enough for the time being. Then when you have the cash I would highly recommend an rb and once you swap that in you'll have a smile on your face 24/7 whenever/where ever you drive the 240 from now on.
