1998 Nissan Altima 2.4L from North America

Summary:

A good car overall, but far from great!

Faults:

Has occasional electrical glitches. The clock has froze on 2 occasions and sometimes the lights go out for a second or two. Car handles poorly in any winds, slippery conditions or at high speeds. Terrible gear ratios on the manual transmission and very sloppy shifting. Seats very uncomfortable on long trips.

General Comments:

This car is well built structurally and mechanically. Very user friendly cabin controls. Not the best mileage for a 4 cylinder. Could use more power. I absolutely hate the transmission and shifter in this car.

1998 Nissan Altima GXE 24. L from North America

Summary:

A solid car with excellent value and reliability

Faults:

The clutch Burned out after 110,000 miles, but I think the previous owner slipped the clutch too much or jammed it into gear from first to second without the proper rpm. When I drive it too hard I can smell clutch burning.

Other than that it seems fine other than new clunk that I think is from sloppy mechanic work on a transmission bracket or something like that.

General Comments:

This is a great highway car with good reliability, comfort and performance. Actually it is very quick and will exceed the speedometer post without much effort, not that you'd want to do that since it doesn't have a performance suspension and you could get into serious trouble at that speed.

It is also good around town, but I'd get the automatic if I did it over again just for ease of use. You don't need the speed the manual gives you with this package.

1998 Nissan Altima GXE 2.4L 4 cylinder. from North America

Summary:

All things considered, it was a good car

Faults:

The only thing I had to replace while I owned the car were the brakes.

A few minor squeaks and rattles while driving.

General Comments:

Overall, I thought that this was a good car.

A few minor issues here and there did not detract from the experience of owning the car.

I would consider the purchase of another Nissan in the future.

1998 Nissan Altima SE 2.4 Liter 4 cylinder from North America

Faults:

Replaced idle pulley at 124,000 miles.($400.00 dollars at delarship)

Replaced radiator at about 130,000 miles.($150.00 for radiator, my uncle installed it for free)

Replaced right CV joint around 145,000.($130.00 parts and labor)

Replaced breaks for the first time at 147,000.($100.00 for breaks and installation)

Driver side window rattles sometimes.(I dont worry about it, it's not that annoying)

General Comments:

I received my 1998 Nissan Altima SE as an early graduation gift in the summer of 2002. (The salesman tried to persuade my mom to give me a Mitsubishi Mirage that had just below 100,000 miles on it.... yea right)

The Altima had 93,000 miles on it when I got it.

After three years of me owning the car, it has 150,000 miles on it(57,000 miles I put on it myself).

I've only had to perform regular maintenance on the car and fix items that went out because of normal wear and tear.

My car rides great and is almost silent while idling. My Altima still handles well, especially for a car of its age. Often people cannot believe my car is seven years old simply because of its excellent physical condition (interior and exterior) and because of how quiet the engine runs. I am so greatful that my mom decided to give me a Nissan Altima before I graduated. Some of my friends have cars such as the Ford Focus, Tarus, and many other American made cars. Their cars have a substantial amount of miles less than mine, but for some reason my Nissan Altima runs, sounds, and looks better than their cars..... go figure.

1998 Nissan Altima XE 2.4L from North America

Summary:

Great and reliable car

Faults:

Engine light went up twice in the first year.

General Comments:

I got the car quite cheap. The car is a bit weak in acceleration. The noise is a bit worse than other. However there is almost no problem at all except the engine light which is covered by warranty. The fuel efficiency is on par with the manufacturer estimate.

I really like this car, the look is unique and not many people drove Altima back then. The more I see it, the more I like it.
