1998 Nissan Altima GXE twin cam from North America

Summary:

The Altima will take you to the 100,000 mile club with no difficulty.

Faults:

The car makes a slight squeak when I shift gears or put the pedal down for increased power.

Slight decrease in power from the engine after 6.5 years driving it.

Oncoming cars occassionally think I have my brights on when I don't.

General Comments:

This car is completely reliable. I can't kill it. Still running strong.

It does an adequate job braking and its engine allows for easing passing when I downshift.

My problem with it is that I've grown bored after 6 and 1/2 years and over 134,000 miles on it. Marriages should last forever, not cars!

1998 Nissan Altima GXE 2.4L DOHC from North America

Summary:

Damn good car

Faults:

Everything seemed to be OK when I bought the car, but 12000km later, I've discovered a crack in my exhaust manifold. Since I love tuning, it was not a big deal because I've changed it for a hotshot 4-2-1 headers with the down pipe.

A couple months ago, I've went to my 5000km oil change and I've discovered that the universal joint seal was leaking oil from the transmission. So I repaired it. On the next oil change, 5000km later, the seal was leaking again. We discovered then that the differential bearing was destroying itself in my transmission. Many people told me that it was common to that model/year. I'm searching for an Altima SE 2001 manual transmission to put it in.

General Comments:

Except for my 2 minor problems, I really love my car. It's performing very well, very reliable, cheap on gas and comfortable.

1998 Nissan Altima GXE 4 from North America

Summary:

Great car for a great price

Faults:

The first week I had the car it died on me. Turns out the battery was on it's last legs and I was the one to replace it.

I also had to replace the brakes 9 times. I do not blame the car for this, but rather the people working on it. My advice would be to go to a Nissan dealership if you need work done. This is what the people who serviced my car also said.

General Comments:

I love this car. In fact I don't ever want to get rid of it, but unfortunately our family has out grown it.

My Altima has been the most reliable car I have ever owned. I have put very little money into it and maintained it well.

If you are looking for a good reliable car that is eye appealing as well as fast, I suggest an Altima.

1998 Nissan Altima GXE 2.4 litre from North America

Summary:

A soon to be legend

Faults:

My breaks squeak sometimes like any other car especially when wet or brand new. I had this problem fixed with a trip to my local Les Schwab.

General Comments:

I absolutely love my car. When I first went out to, but the car I was looking for great looks with reliability. A Honda seemed reasonable, but I fell in love with the Altima. It looks great (especially with the minimal modifications I've done), and it will beat many of the "racing" Hondas out there. I owned a 1993 Maxima before which was another great car. The only problems I've had with either car have been my fault. I would recommend Nissan products to anyone looking for the best.

1998 Nissan Altima GXE 4 from North America

Summary:

A fast, reliable, all around car

Faults:

I had to replace the fuel pump.

I replaced the front brake pads and tires at sixty thousand miles.

Everything else is original.

General Comments:

I can't imagine a more reliable car. Routine maintenance keeps this car going without any problems.

It's fast and corners well.

I've got as good as 37 mpg on the highway, and that's driving between 75 and 80. I also own a 6 cylinder Ford Taurus, and for trips I put the family in the Nissan because of the mushy ride and lousy gas millage of the Ford.

1998 Nissan Altima GXE 2.4 from North America

Summary:

A very reliable car

Faults:

Nothing. In almost 4 years of operation there was not a single mechanical problem with the car.

General Comments:

This car is not expensive and has an excellent build quality. It turned out to be the most reliable new car I ever had - better than Honda Civic and BMW 330.

Acceleration is quite adequate, road handling is about average, turn radius is worse than average.

Gas mileage averaged around 25MPG for city-highway driving.

I am not very fond of its exterior design, but the interior is very well done for an inexpensive car.
