2002 Nissan Altima S 2.5 from North America

Summary:

The engine is no good

Faults:

After the pre-catalytic converter recall at 41,000 miles, my car started burning excessive oil. I complained to the dealer and they said that was normal.

At 45,000 miles, my mass air flow sensor failed, and at 62,000 miles, my throttle body failed, then the oxygen sensor followed and now my catalytic converter is bad, which is still under warranty until 80,000 miles.

I called the dealer to inform them of my catalytic converter failure, and the on going excessive oil consumption, and they are trying to say that they can't fix the problem; I need to show them proof of oil changes", which I have receipts of the oil changes, but they just don't want to admit they have a bad product, they're trying to avoid fixing these cars.

The particles from the pre-catalytic converter are going in the engine and causing the excessive oil burning. They said it themselves on the recall...

General Comments:

The car looks nice, but the engine is no good... I wish Nissan would stand up and take responsibility, and fix our cars.

2002 Nissan Altima 2.5s from North America

Summary:

Very poor performance

Faults:

Since the purchase of my 2002 Nissan Altima, I had to replace the head gasket, and timing chain.

The car has cut off on me several times, and the check engine light stays on.

I am very frustrated with my vehicle right now. My husband has spent over two thousand dollars on this car.

The performance overall is very poor. Now, its leaking oil and the repairman says something has gone wrong with the piston and I need a new engine.

I don't want to put any more money in this vehicle. Can someone help me?

Loud knocking noise coming from rear under car, not identified yet, has been happening for past year and a half, has not been eliminated with each repair suspected of being the problem.

General Comments:

This car has been nothing, but headaches and from the start.

I love the look of the car and handling is great with the exception of rough ride, feeling every bump in the road.

2002 Nissan Altima 2.5 from North America

Summary:

A very fast, sleek, delicate sports sedan

Faults:

After two months of owning it, my head gasket blew. The dealership replaced the gasket, as well as two rods and all the spark plugs. A month later it blew again. It turns out the catalytic converter had failed, sending bits and pieces back into my engine. The compression was compromised, and so the whole engine had to be replaced as well as a new Caty installed. That was around 108,000 miles, it's been 6,000 miles since, and it runs great. I was charged $240 for parts not covered by my warranty. I wouldn't volunteer for the experience again, but I love my car now that it runs like it's supposed to.

General Comments:

The car has lots of power for a four cylinder engine. It turns on a dime and stops on one too. I recommend ceramic brake pads and nice sports tiers, it just does the car justice. The all around disc breaks are a huge bonus, and bring this big sedan to a stop now. Starts every time, perfectly. Also, these engines are sensitive so plus grade gasoline is the way to go if you want your engine to go longer... premium is a nice treat once in a while. Very spacious and comfortable, I personally like my tints and volume/track controls on the steering wheel.
