General Comments:

This car has performed much more reliably than I could ever have hoped for. There is still no slop in the steering. The seats are still comfortable. The engine has yet to feel tired.

Compared to my Volkswagen GTI (which was FUN!), this car has been much more reliable.

1990 Nissan Stanza XE 2.4 from North America

Faults:

Leaking power steering hose at 142,000.

Major oil leak at 138,000.

Bad alternator at 140,000 (This was a re-manufactured replacement I think went bad prematurely).

Bad alternator at 125,000.

General Comments:

Overall, my '90 Stanza has been treated really good. The original engine and transmission are working fine, other than the aforementioned faults and regular maintenance, I have had no problems with the car.

I have replaced the tires with performance ones and installed new shocks and I think the Stanza handles really well, like a sports car (no kidding!!). I hope to get a few more years out of it.

You think your Stanza handles like a sports car eh? My Dad had a 1990 Stanza GXE (rare). Although loaded down with power everything it was nimble. Alloy wheels wrapped with Michelin X-one premium rubber. 4 wheel disc brakes, 4 wheel ABS. Limited slip front differential, multi-mode 4 speed OD transmission. Thirsty for a four banger, but well worth it. My brother had it up to 200 km/hr (130 m/hr) and he reported no shaking, no vibrations, no anything. It's replacement, the Altima is a great car, but not the same.

I love my 1990 Stanza! (I think its XE)

It was actually a hand-me-down from my brother. He banged it up a lot, and it sat in a barn forever, but after minimal repairs and cleaning the mice out, it has treated me very well. I feel very safe in it, and know I can depend on it to bring me to work everyday!

Overall a very reliable and fun car to drive. I owned the car for 3 years, and feel it was very good value for the money.

The Stanza never came in an LX model in 1990. It came in XE and GXE. Also, there was never a 2.2 engine in the Stanza, EVER! It was a 2.4 from 90-92 and previous to those years it was a 2.0.

Owned my 90 Stanza for about 7 years now... I love it.. Not real sporty or high class, but it has driven me over 100k miles. I've put a lot of time and work into it.. (valve guides, fuel pump, yearly tuneups, frequent oil changes, cv joints, etc).. only major problems now are the motor mounts and rack and pinion.. but still drivable.. has only left me on the side of the street (for about 5 minutes) one time when the fuel pump went wacko... good gas mileage, trunk holds a nice sound system and it makes parking lots much easier to manage =)
