1993 Nissan Sunny Tango 1.4 16v Twin Cam from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Banger that will always get you home

Faults:

Makes a quiet squeaking noise when going slowly. Over 5MPH or so it goes away.

Sometimes makes a clonking noise when moving off.

Clutch slips/judders/squeals a bit.

Steering vague, very loose in the straight ahead position. Pulls to one side slightly.

General Comments:

Extremely easy to drive - the lightest clutch I've ever experienced!

Engine runs sweetly - it will definitely outlive the rest of the car. Still smooth and almost inaudible at idle.

Suspect the car has been clocked at some point as the 9 on the odometer is scratched. Doesn't really matter much though.

It sounds like a bit of a dodgy motor, but for £300 I really can't complain. Had got rid of a 2001 Peugeot 106 GTI after spending a fortune on trying to make it reliable.

Bought this the next day and it's been 100% reliable on my 50 mile round trip to work everyday.

If you want a temporary car that won't let you down, trust the Japanese!

1993 Nissan Sunny 2.0e GTi 2.0 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Ultimate street sleeper!

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

I would never have thought of owning a Nissan Sunny until I test drove this little diamond all those years ago!

I was amazed that a car I had never really heard of could be so good!

Similar performance to my beloved old 205 1.9 GTI, handling only slightly sloppier, but so much more refined.

(A lot more reliable and cheaper to run as it transpires!)

I finally had to bin (literally) the nasty little 14" alloys.

Not only did they look like roller skates, but the unique fitment size tyres cost a fortune. Love this car to bits. I have just bought an Almera GTI on the strength of the Sunny, but I'm afraid that the Sunny is so good it stays! I have had no problems with the Sunny in 40,000 miles.

If you are lucky enough to find one that has not had to much of the 'Max Power' treatment-buy it, drive it, and love it!

Couldn't agree more. I purchased a mint 93 k with 122k on the clock for £1100. However, what I later found out was that the car had been used for development purposes at Shell lubricants and had spent over 85k of those miles on a dyno!! Thus I procured a 1 owner from new pampered gti which performs like new. Previous cars include Pug 1.9 gti, Integrale 8v and I have had more fun in the sunny than either of these cars!! Let the knockers mock whilst you leave them for dead at the lights!!

I bought a 1994 1.6sr in September 2002. I bought as a cheap run around, but has been the best car I have ever had. It is so reliable and has now done 90,000. Although the rear brake shoes now need replacing and I am having some difficulty finding the right ones for it. as there are a few different types.

1993 Nissan Sunny SR 1.6i from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Must have car, superb performance for a 1.6i

Faults:

Slight rattle from the exhaust which has a Cobra 9 inch oval stainless steel exit. Sounds superb, better than my mates FTO. Steering pulls to left, but can be altered.

General Comments:

What a performance, hits 7500 revs every gear change without problems, real sports performance car for a 1.6i engine. handles superbly round corners at speed. Can't find an induction kit, however, it is reliable, fast, sporty and all for £1950!!! What a bargain!!!

1993 Nissan Sunny SR 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A reliable sporty hatchback

Faults:

Slight rattle from the exhaust, this appears to be a common problem. Have tried new tension springs and removed heat shield, but will need a new exhaust to rectify.

Slow and sticky drivers electric window.

General Comments:

I have had the car for only 9 months, however, it seems to be very reliable.

The driving position is comfortable.

The power and handling is not bad for a 1.6 and feels quite lively at any speed, fuel consumption is quite good (approx 34mpg).

Room in the back is cramped for adults.
